Dihydrogen Monoxide

The evils of dihydrogen monoxide (commonly referred to as DHMO) need to be brought more fully into the public eye, especially considering how environmentally aware we have all become in the past decade. I thought I'd share some info concerning DHMO here, as most SYMers seem to be very sensitive when it comes to environmental hazards both in their own countries, and in the world abroad.

I think that we should tack fluoride on to the list also.......there is a potentially deadly chemical in our favorite brands of toothpaste...The world must know !!!

@Scayde: Yes, sweetheart...it is time the world finally appreciates the tireless efforts of Ralph Nader, champion of the common man and Grand Pooh-Bah Consumer Advocate El Supremo. Years ago, he finally concluded that waking up in the morning was hazardous to your health. I couldn't agree with this more. Ban having to wake up in the mornings!

DMHO, funny, we used to label jars of that stuff as hazardous in the lab back in the day to see if people would figure it out. Haven't thought about it in almost ten years.

Actually, fluoride in very high concentrations can be hazardous to your health.

I did a project on banning Dihydrogen Monoxide my freshman year. I talked to my teacher beforehand and she said it was a great idea and everything (not knowing what it was). I had people sign a petition, nearly every one of my teacher's signed it. When I was done some teachers said they were playing along, others admited they had no idea what was going on, overall, a good project.

In gaseous form it's absolutely lethal. Back in the discovering days, when people used their noses to figure out what they were looking at, at least one scientist died while "discovering" fluoride. Apparently, the last notes on his notepad was "a greenish blue flame was observed". Could be myth though, haven't done my research. Anyone care to verify? I have a boat to catch.
