| | I'm not Christian, Wicca, or anything other than a witch. So I don't care if you want to celebrate Easter, Ostara, Passover, or just sit around your house this weekend and goose squirrels--whatever works for you, and just mind that you don't get so drink on tequila you drink the little worm at the bottom of the bottle. Those things will grow out of your fingernails.

| | Yum, chocolates. Peeps. Jelly beans. Oooooh.
As I'm not a Christian either, I only celebrate Easter for its commercial properties. Happy Gimme Chocolate Day!

| | Technically, wouldn't most pagans have more right to be celebrating this day than others? I mean, it was another Christian rip off of a pagan holiday if I am not mistaken. Anywho, I get to go see my cousin and his cute fiancé and spend the day talking with them and ignoring the rest of my family. Plus, free dinner is always good.

I knew it was a ripoff of a "pagan" holiday--my mom likes to drill these things into my head lately, I guess now that she thinks I'm smart enough to appreciate it--but I didn't know exactly where. This semester, I'm taking a Mythology class, and we learned of Greek and Roman mythology (where it's easy to find where Christians stole things). We just finished doing Norse mythology and are moving on to Celtic mythology. In Norse mythology, Eástre or Ostara, goddess of spring, is where we get the English word Easter. " This gracious goddess was so dearly loved by the old Teutons, that even after Christianity had been introduced they retained so pleasant a recollection of her, that they refused to have her degraded to the rank of a demon, like many of their other divinities, and transferred her name to their great Christian feast. It had long been customary to celebrate this day by the exchange of presents of coloured eggs, for the egg is the type of the beginning of life; so the early Christians continued to observe this rule, declaring, however, that the egg is also symbolical of the Resurrection."

| | Happy Easter everyone! Even if you aren't Christian, may the whole rebirth-thing (if only applied to the changing of seasons or something) still bring some light into your day. |
