Post Describe Heaven. Describe Hell.

You know the routine: arms and legs spread, face to the wall, and as we read you your Miranda rights, answer the question above. Actually, I'm just interested in what people actually think of the concept, and if they believe in either, what are the details of the real estate, in as much depth as they can manage while on the 70-year bender known as life.

Talking

I think one can not exist without the other so if you beleiove in one then you have to beleive in the other.

Hell is not tangible like Dantés inferno it isn't a little red man running aroung giving you a poker up the but. IMO. The truth IMO seems to sway more to the christian ethos, hell is when one is denied any form of emotion or love.

Cool

Hummmmm, my 'concepts' change from moment to moment. It depends on whether I'm in the 'reincarnation' mode or not.

IMO, the concepts of heaven and hell are tightly tied to religous mythos and the moral tenets thereof. Therefore they are highly 'specialized' depending on which tenets one adheres too. Hence my opening statement.

Heaven and Hell from Spammer point of view
Heaven is when Buck created this SYM forum - this is heaven. The place to spam

Hell is when some topics marked no spam or serious topic

Heaven would be having Buck Satan laugh at one of my jokes (nice little contradiction there). Hell would be being on the receiving end of one of Fable's 3-page flames.

I always liked how Satan could not understand why mortals thought that they would magically gain the ability to play the harp and sing once they got to heaven (Mark Twain's Letters from the Earth).

Hey, that Tolkien thingee wasn't written by me! I don't have a computer! I was being ambushed by extra-terrestials looking for a good Indian buffet at the time! I didn't exist! And it wasn't me that wrote it, it was the angel Seth! Honest!

I know for a fact that you DO have a computer. However, I also know that alien technology was used in its construction. Hence, you may not have been totally responsible for that "Tolkien Thingee," as you so delicately put it. (BTW, I have a print out of the Tolkien Thingee that I take with me whenever I go to the used book store.)

By my view, not to offend anyone, gods, angels, staits, heaven and hell don't exist.

I believe in reincarnation, sort of. What I mean is that according to scientific principles, neither matter nor energy can be created or destroyed. So, when somebody or something dies, clearly that matter and energy have to go somewhere, I think that it gets recycled into new life.
As far as heaven and hell go, no I don't believe in either. Life is here and now, and we should be held accountable for our actions in this life, rather than relying on some kind of devine forgiveness as the Grim Reaper draws nigh.

Does reincarnation transcend temporal boundaries? In other words, will I be reincarnated as Bruce Springsteen and have to live in New Jersey and through the '80s all over again?

It does, but not in the way you mean. There is 'energy' left over. It's stored chemical energy, and it's used by the plants and critters that come calling when we vacate our mortal husks. Sorry for any disturbing imagery... but that's the science of it.

@Fable

I have done a bit of browsing tonight and this thread is not the first to reference your Tolkien discussion.

I would be interested to read it - just because it appears I have missed on something major Where might I find it? and is it worth the read? (I don't just mean your post but the whole discussion. You know sum of the parts and all that!)

Re this topic jokingly heaven is a cold beer on a hot night, or hammering a bike down a long straight road with no speed cameras (or pedestrians!) and hell is four to seven o'clock in my house every day until the kids are fed, bathed and in bed. Then another heaven - falling in love with them all over again an hour after they fall asleep!

Seriously - I am too contradictory (of myself) to give too much of a serious answer without entering into major dialogue. But as simply as I can, I do not believe in heaven and hell and an afterlife. But, I am superstitious and I believe in earth bound spirits. Hmmm....yes. I am a druid lol!

heaven is a 2.5 yr old jumpin' on your head at 9:00 in the morning, saying "Daddy!"

hell is sitting on a natural gas platform talking to your wife on the phone, and hearing that same two yr old cry.
