They are both states of being. Heaven is love. Hell is the lack thereof.

The life we're living now is continued after the body is destroyed. The love we live now will become heaven. The hatred and anger, the lack of love, that we live now, will become hell.

Heaven: 5 billion dollars in my bank account to buy:

- Ferraris
- G-5s(the plane, not the computer, fool)
- Beautiful women
- Islands
- Castles

Hell: Getting caught in a dark alley by Darkpoet, Gruntboy and their anal nitrate components.

fable: If you actually weren't looking for spam, then I'll answer your question. The problem is though, that I disagree with your underlying premise. You are assuming I agree with you that they exist, and asking me questions about them, but the truth is, neither exist.

IMHO of course. It all comes down to faith. You've either go it, or don't got it. I don't got it.

@Yshania, the topic is currently on the second page, but I think this link, below, will work: link to disgustingly disavowed post

@WitchKing, I wasn't looking for spam, but for honest reactions--which it appears I'm getting. For myself, I tend to agree with Loner, that hell is a place one carries with oneself, a pocket dimension void of love. By extension, heaven would be a realization of the love of the universe, I presume, but I don't know anybody who has actually held onto that for very long. Would burn out human circuitry, I guess.

Since my personal believes do not include transcendent beings or worlds, the words heaven and hell has no other meaning to me than my personal interpretation of the Christian concepts:

Heaven: a transcendent state after life that makes the burdens of life seem easier to endure. Very useful for making people accept injustices.

Hell: a transcendent place or state of punishment for not acting or thinking according to the rules set by a certain religion/culture. Very useful for controlling and limiting peoples' actions.

Of course I know many people has their own personal interpretations of the concepts!

When I'm dead, I'm dead. I, like some of the others do not believe in heaven or hell in aacordance with typical christain beliefs that when you die, you go to one or the other.

Personally it doesn't bother me since when I die, any conscious thought will decist, cease and end once and for all. So if I'm not going to be aware of it, why worry about it

Sometimes it scares me a little that I will one day cease to exist, but that just makes me want to make more of what I have now

Never take life to seriously, no one gets out alive anyway

The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

I like the idea that we are all already in Hell and we have missed out on transcendence. It sometimes feels like that if you look at places like Yugoslavia.

This is an old, lonely thread, that lives in a hovel where it eats nothing save cold gruel made of shadows and televangelists' consciences once every two days. I hope you will take a look at the intro post, and contribute it.

But for those who have problems reading back:

Do you believe in a heaven and hell? Why or why not, and if so, what forms do they take?

Sartres: Hell is other people.

I kind of agree with that... but other people can be heaven too. Religiously, I have no opinion, because I find it uncomfortable to speculate, and I find myself without faith. Or at least agnostic. To break it down to a very basic level, I'd say any concept of heaven boils down to complete comfort, whereas hell is persistent discomfort.

Heaven-

As long as it has buscuits and gravy, any sexyish woman (doesn't have to be perfect, but damn near close is mandatory) and if I get wings, I'm there.

Hell-
As long as it has dungeons and dragons and magrus, I'm there.

Heaven and Hell are concepts thrown together by old men in caves, they have been mutilated, deformed, beaten with wet burlap sacks, burned beyond recognition, and have been passed down through the ages to become what they are today. They were invented to satisfy one of the fundamental needs of man, and have become part of the mortar that has held society together since dawn first rose on mans first city. The belief that there is something else after, that death is not the end, is what keeps man going, it is what gives him the motivation to get out of bed, and work. If he wasnt going any where, why would he do anything? (There are exceptions, such as the Sumerians, but then again, where are they? Many of todays nations where built on religion, and many of them are still governed/heavily influenced by it today.... Im not sure where I am going with this tonight.)

Here is a rap that pertains to this thread, if you have time, read it.
Genius/GZA - Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth from the album Liquid Swords

The Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth (3X)

Chorus: repeat 2X

Life is a test many quest the universe
And through my research, I felt the joy and the hurt
The first shall be last and the last shall be first
The basic instructions before leaving earth

Verse One:

Knowledge this wisdom, this goes back when I was twelve
I loved doing right but I was trapped in hell
Had mad ideas, sad eyes and tears
Years of fears, but yo my foes couldn't bear
I searched for the truth since my youth
And went to church since birth, but it wasn't worth the loot
that I was paying, plus the praying
I didn't like staying cuz of busy-bodies and dizzy hotties
That the preacher had souped up with lies
Had me cooped up lookin at loot, butt, and thighs
Durin the service, he swallowed up the poor
And after they heard this, they wallowed on the floor
But I ignored, and explored my history that was untold
And watched mysteries unfold
And dropped a jewel like Solomon, but never followed men
cause if you do your brain is more hollow than
Space oblivia, or the abyss
With no trace of trivia, left with the hiss
Does it pay to be deaf, dumb and blind?
From a slave we was kept from the mind
And from the caves he crept from behind
And what he gave, was the sect of the swine
When the bible, it condemned the pig
I don't mean to pull your hems or flip your wigs
But we used to wear a turban, but now we're in the urban
No more wearing beanies and dress like a genie
No hocus pocus cause I focus on the facts
And put it on the tracks and brought it through the wax
I speak on Jacob, it might take up some time
And too much knowledge, it might break up the ryhme
I did it anyway just to wake up the mind
of those who kiss stones or prays on the carpet
Those who sit home, or sell books by the market
Need to chill and get their mind revived
For years religion did nothing but divide
The basic instructions before leaving earth

Chorus

Verse Two:

I strolled through the books of Job to unfold
And open bibles, instead of hoping on revivals
Calling on His name and screaming hallelujah
when he hardly knew ya, that's how the devil's fooled ya
See look into my eyes brethren, that's the lies of a Reverend
Why should you die to go to heaven?
The Earth is already in space,
the bible I embrace
A difficult task I had to take
I studied till my eyes was swollen, and only arose when
I found out that we were the chosen
I deal with the truth, and build with the youth
And teach my son as he kneels on the stoop
Son, life is a pool of sin, corrupted wth foolish men
and women with wicked minds, who build picket signs
to legalize abortion, the evil eye distortion
I quiz Son with my wisdom
Before I converted, I was perverted, and knowledge was asserted
The study of wisdom, I perferred it
The understanding, it gave me mental freedom
I even learnt Caucasians were really the Tribe of Edam
The white image, of Christ, is really Cesare Borgia
and uhh, the second son of Pope Alexander
The Sixth of Rome, and once the picture was shown
That's how the devils tricked my dome
I prophesized to save a man, but no one gave a damn
for my nation - the seed of Abraham
Blessed with the tongue of Hebrew
Now we're strung on needles, and some are plungin evils
So study and be wise in these days of darkness
Peace to my nephew Marcus

The basic instructions before leaving earth

Chorus: repeat to fade
