LOL......You are both right......

Daaaang is a rather generic expletive where as
Dammy is reserved for those occasions which warrent special consideration.....

it is all in the finer aspect of the Lexicon de Texana

a sample of southern literature, aka, poetry

Suzy Lee fell in love.
She planned to marry Joe.
She was so happy bout it all, she told her pappy so.

Pappy told her, "Suzie Gal" you'll have to find another.
I'd just as soon yo maw don't know, but Joe is yo half-brother.

So Suzie forgot about her Joe and planned to marry Will.
But, after telling pappy this he said "There's trouble still".

You can't marry Will, my gal, and please don't tell yo mother, cause Will and Joe and several mo I know is yo half-brother"

But Mama knew and said "Honey chile, do what makes yo happy.

Marry Will or marry Joe, You ain't no kin to pappy!"

Would that be "free love" Southern style?

Oh indeed there is !
Coastal cities such as Vancouver and Seattle are relatively "civilised" but once you venture into the interior of both places..... it becomes difficult to actually escape the redneck culture. In fact there is one area in British Columbia, called the Kooteneys, where the inhabitants are commonly thought to be inbred.....

@DW: Apparently this Canadian redneck sub-culture has spilled over into the states which border British Columbia...while in Washington State, I encountered such rednecks. Indeed, a Pacific Northwest version of Bubba...instead of old greasy ball caps and WWF t-shirts, however, these guys wore touques and oversized flannel shirts.

Goodness, they had "Great White North" bumperstickers on their 4WD trucks...

"Hey...like, want to go spotlight some deer, eh?"

Speaking of California...let's not forget Rio Linda...a western copy of certain places in the South...

Twin Peaks...LMAO! I remember that...

This all has a "Deliverence" sort of feel to it...as in, "Them woods back there."

@BS: "Daaang" is indeed a more generalized application, whereas "Dammy" is specialized in use. Weasel ought to be here...his input would be invaluable.
