| | | Cold/cool, non-crunchy food: Suggestions? (Keep it clean; kids could be reading!) Hey folks, ol' Galuf's gone through the extractions for the other set of wisdom teeth. So, I'd thought I'd ask about any other soft, cold foods I should have. What I have so far is...
- Apple sauce (This time, I went with a "No sugar added" type.)
- Ice Cream, preferedly without any cruncy stuff in it
- Yogurt
- Scrambled eggs (Don't like, don't want.)
Beverages are something I have no problem with. I've got milk and juice to boot, as well as access to vanilla or chocolate ice cream in order to make milk shakes. Between that and the Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins combo store in the Wal-Mart where I work, I'm all set drink-wise.
Any other ideas?

| | Pasta salad. Its really easy and tastes great cold. Simplest thing really, boil elbow or spiral noodles and toss in Italian dressing. Whatever you add in is just extra goodness. (green olives, parmesian cheese and a bit of pepper is great though if you're keeping things soft).
Umm...can't think of cold things, just hot things...

| | Ah, poor Galuf. I had to remove all four of my wisdom teeth by surgery because they grew in the wrong direction - downwards towards the root of the molar in front. I've never been so thin in my life, when I was lying on my stomach in the bed, I rested on my ribs and hipbones. If your teeth has grown out partly or fully, it will be much easier, though
In my opinion, drinks like smoothies, milkshakes and fruitjuices are nice when you can't chew. They can be varied to a large extent, especially if you live in an area where fresh fruit is found. Try mixing different fruits and berries, and also try mixing them with yoghurt, ice cream and milk. Apart from that, I used nutrition drinks of the type people use for dieting, energy drinks and also various soups.

| | | I definately have to reinforce CE's position on smoothies and fruit drinks.
It's about the only way to get sufficient food value into you when your jaw hurts. You can add soft tofu, or whey for protien, and carrots are really sweet when juiced. It'll let you get a daily serving of protien, fruit and vegie in a couple cool, refreshing drinks. Play around, but avoid too much "bitter" veggies, they just taste poor.
And you can add a raw egg for protien if you have an aversion to whey.

I drank these diet-drinks with proteins in, but they didn't taste very nice so sometimes I drank a couple of cold eggs instead. Didn't taste very nice either, but the ratio bad taste/nutrition value is better for eggs than for the diet-powder drinks I used.

Dieting & energy drinks, eh? I could likely get my hands on the likes of those.
Supper ended up consisting of some deli ham which I pulled apart and sucked down (rather like pasta, minus any chewing), along with a nice cup half-full of unsweetened apple sauce and sour cream (all the bowls are dirty right now; ingenuity was calling).
Soups I've really got to watch it on, particularly since there aren't too many cold soups that I know of. The dental surgeon suggested the first time that I knock off warm/hot foods for the first 2 days of surgery at the most.
The pain isn't really intense. The worse part is changing gauze every 45 minutes.
Obsidian: I'll keep your advice in mind, minus the egg part (I mostly hate eggs).

| | Yeah, hot stuff will make the skin open up I do believe...can't recall...
Try the pasta salad. It's easy, takes like 20 minutes with boiling the water and you can make a TON of it all in one go. It's great to bring with you somewhere if you have tupperware, or even those little disposable things they sell now. Chances are you can grab a couple on your way home from work, make a batch of a few pounds of the stuff and grub on that for snacks or a meal or whenever. It's a great summer food, especially if you're active.
All you need is the pasta, a pot, some water and some Italian dressing and a strainer. Make room in the fridge and just put the top on the pot (heh, same letters just backwards ) and put it right in there. Scoop out what you need and bring it with you if you go somewhere. A plastic fork is easy to get if you have a fast food place nearby.
(now I want some, this weekend I'll have to make some for my trip. )

Plastic utensils are about as present as metal ones due to the upcoming reconstruction of the house, and even so, I've got some tucked away in my car in case I forget one AND the deli @ Wal-Mart is out of them (happened once).

| | A bit of garlic and pouring in some Parmesian cheese while you add the Italian dressing to it after you've cooked the noodles gives it a great tastes IMO. If I'm ambitious, I chop cucumbers, carrots, add in olives and stuff. That stuff means more chewing though, so I'd stick to the cheese and dressing.
If your not used to making it, go slow with adding the dressing in btw. Adding to much means it ends up oily. Just add enough to coat it, stir it up and if it needs more, you can always add more. The mix of the dressing and melted parmesian on it though is great I think.

How about adding chicken? Grilled chicken, cut up and tossed in there would be good. However....I don't know how cold chicken would taste. I either eat it hot with chicken, or cold without.
Lunch meats aren't that great for you so I'd suggest avoiding those if your worried about healthy food. Diced pepperoni is good with it, but thats neither good, nor soft.
