HELP! I have no idea what to get the old woman for the festive season and would like ideas or suggestions from the legions of people with high IQs at GB. And no, love and helping with the meal on the 25th does not count as a present, nor does being helpful or generous in any other way.

Go into a body shop and tell the nice woman at the counter that you want something special for your mom. That'll work

Why are women terrible to buy for, while men aren't?

HELP! I have no idea what to get the old woman for the festive season...

How are we, without any knowledge of her or her tastes, supposed to know more of her what she wants than you, who have known her your entire lifetime? If you want help, I'd think another relative of yours would be more likely to come up with some useful suggestions than anybody here.

Already got her a couple of books, just need something else.
And Fable no offense and this is not sexist in any way but women being women are supremley difficult people in general, but then having to think of things for them is awful to a male mind unless you actually enjoy shopping which would probably mean your either rich or efeminate.
But I digress back to the point........

That's slightly ironic as people ask the complete strangers on here questions about all sorts where the people replying have no idea about the person posting!

You're referring to "love help" threads, right? In that case, it's a matter of younger people appealing to those with more experience, who have as a result greater insights into what works, and what doesn't. But you're asking us to recocommend gifts for a total stranger, whom you know intimately. The two situations are vastly different. I can recommend anything for your mother, and my recommendations will be worth exactly as much information and knowledge of her as I have--in other words, nothing.

See this is why women are terrible to buy for.....

Still seeking an answer on this. Why do you find it difficult to buy something for "women?" Maybe you should focus on the person, and not stereotype 'em. All "women" don't have the same tastes, by any means.

Er, what? Is this an attempt at a flame? I was trying to explain why you and your relations are the best source for gift ideas for your mother. And why generalzing anybody by sex in an effort to buy for them is a very unhelpful way of determining what they like.

As my last action before I go on vacation - I'll close this thread due to it starting to degenerate.

@Macleod1701: I belive I've said this before, but I will say it once more - you need to start watching your language.
The written language can be tricky and if you mean your posts in jest (as I suspect you might do), then try and wait a couple of minutes with posting and see if you still belive you should write as you do - because the meaning is likely completely different from intent. And if you mean your posts as you write - then know that flameing is not allowed and not welcomed on GameBanshee if you wish to continue posting.

Write respectfully and with maturity to people - and people will reply with more respect towards you, and it is a win-win situation.
If you have nothing "decent" to post however - it is better to refrain from posting. I refere you to the forum rules (read them if you haven't and if you have - do it again please) and the SYM-specific "guidelines/rules" which you can find as a sticky in SYM-forum.

If you wish to discuss any of this - my PM box is open and I'll reply as soon as I'm back on the board in a couple of days time.
