Ive noticed over the years that most of the games I buy end up collecting dust on the shelves. This is wierd because even with all those games there I insist on buying more games. The "shelved" list includes; Baldurs Gate 2, Wizardry 8, Dungeon Siege, Neverwinter Nights, Diablo 2, Pool of Radiance, Starcraft, Arx Fatalis, Arcanum, and Morrowind. Its sad because i spent about $40 or so each on these games. Now that i think about it my status as a gamer has ceased to exist. I find myself now enjoying the actual computer aspect of it more. Tweaking and formatting seems to be the spice of my life when it comes to computers lately. When time comes for a Lan Party i might be the only one who understands how to network us (which i for some reason obsess about) but, i cant play the games worth squat. Well the main purpose of this post was basically to ask everyone on there opinion on how to get back into the gaming frenzy. Is there a particular game on the list you think would be good to start with? I eventually plan on getting through each of these games. Thanx for your help...

You must buy new games, specifically Warcraft III, Ghost Recon and Civ 3.

Oh, buy a MSI motherboard and an nVidia video card while you're at it.

Warcraft 3 is a must have. I am still playing it even now. Civ 3 is great as well, but i fell out of the Civ thing years ago. I still love the first one.

Another game you can wait for is KOTOR. That comes out in dec i think for the PC. Other than that if you still like BG2, there are some excellent mods out there that add a whole lot more.

But i havent played a game except for warcraft 3 in 7 months. So get other people to help you out as well.

I rarely play PC games now unless I'm at my parents house. My brothers love Battlefield 1942, so I play against them on the home network sometimes. Thats really good fun

But generally I'm more of a console man nowadays. You work in front of a sterile PC and its generally the last thing you want to see when you get home.

Since your list consists entirely of RPG's and you don't have the greatest game of them all on your list, I'll have to recommend it to you then.

Planescape: Torment. Go find it

Games currently sitting unplayed on my shelf: Icewind Dale (I played a bit of it, but then got into BG2...), Planescape: Torment (yes, yes, I know...

I played a tiny bit, but not enough to get into it. I really ought to.), Arcanum (installed it but haven't got round to playing much of it), Vampire: The Masquerade: Redemption (which I don't think I ever got round to installing, bought it cos it was on sale), Unreal (never play it), Unreal Tournament (very rarely play it, was mainly for LAN parties and we don't have them anymore). I just keep playing the Baldur's Gate series with different mods... am currrently enjoying the Kelsey romance.

Yes, the mods make BG2 ever-fresh. I've had problems grouping some of them, but I'm pretty sure I'll start playing once again in a couple of months with the item upgrades pack, the new conversation pack and Kelsey--if I can get 'em to integrate properly.

But for now, I've just received Etherlords II and Patrician III. I'm a happy strategic gameplaying camper.

Well, I'm trying to finish up BG2: ToB in my spare time (as in when I've done enough homework for the day). My dad is going to buy me a copy of "The Temple of Elemental Evil" (with the money that I gave him for it) this weekend. Fortunately, my parents and I agreed (though it's mainly up to me nowadays) that I don't have to install it right away. When I finally finish ToB, I'll most likely uninstall the entire game for ToEE.

For games I haven't finished yet:
- Stronghold (decent medieval strategy game IMO, half-way through it already and I'm stuck)
- Icewind Dale 2 (have it installed, but am stuck due a a strange occurence in Chpt. 2 after patching the game)
- Might and Magic 6 (started to lose interest in it; uninstalled it)

Oh, tell me about it, I keep getting bugs in my current game. Very annoying. Kelsey's good though, he's quite well written, and less annoying than Anomen.

And the flirtpacks are fun.

I forgot to mention that the games that i listed were just the RPG chunk of it. I have Warcraft 3 among other games, but due to a bad internet connection I am forced to play it rarely unless im at a lan party. I have a decent system. Its an AMD Athlon 950 mhz. I currently have 384 mb of Ram and a GeForce 3 Ti 200 video card. This equipment may not be the best, but it suits my gaming needs. My only problem nowadays is hard drive space. With all those games and my Mp3.......err..... music collection my 20 GB hard drive is losing its precious space. Hopefully i'll remedy this with a new computer in the coming months...

Why don't you just get a new hard drive if that's the only issue? Unless you just want an excuse for a whole new machine...

Seriously, you can get massive HDDs for pretty low prices, I'm sure you could find a bargain to store your ummm... music collection on.

Georgi's advice is quite good. HDDs are both large and inexpensive, these days. If that's a problem, just buy some flash memory. Then you can keep your games out of sight, on a keychain, and plug 'em in when people who won't understand are around.

@Gorgan: I haven't even tried all the games you mention, but some advice based on what I think about those I've tried, and on how my gaming mind works.

1. Start with Diablo 2. It's a very simple and intuitive game, with fast gameplay and it's also highly addicitve. I think it's the best choice to begin with.

2. Then try Baldur's Gate 2. It is very different from D2, story-drive and fairly slow to play but very nice.

Dungeon Siege is more similar to Diablo, Neverwinter nights is similar to BG2, but does IMO have a less interesting storyline. Morrowind is quite slow to start with, nothing much happens and I never managed to get into the game, I just walked around and became bored

so I wouldn't recommend starting with that one although I belive it's a good game.

Warcraft 3 is a very nice game which I also found suitable when I hadn't played any games for a long time. Last summer when I hadn't played any games for almost a year, I failed to play Neverwinter nights, Morrowind and Icewind dale 2, but I managed to play W3 because it is more catchy, the gameplay is more intense and you have to concentrate, you can't let your thoughts drift away to other things while playing since it's attention demaning.

I never tried the fallout series. I am under the impression that the Dungeon Siege game is pretty boring as well. I am however very interested in its multiplayer world. It seems pretty vast and nonlinear like, but who knows, looks can be deceiving.

Dungeon Siege can get boring, no doubt about that.

Fallout's great.....it was the beginning of Black Isle's hot streak....think guns, mutants, radiation, and completely non-linear character creation
