Beware the free breast exam guy

Lina sent me a message when I was sleeping last night with this link in it:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12409277/

MIAMI - A 76-year-old man claiming to be a doctor went door-to-door in a Florida neighborhood offering free breast exams and was charged with sexually assaulting two women who accepted the offer, police said Thursday.

One woman became suspicious after the man asked her to remove all her clothes and began conducting a purported genital exam without donning rubber gloves, investigators said.

The woman then phoned the Broward County Sheriff's Office, and the suspect fled. He was arrested at another woman's apartment in the same Lauderdale Lakes neighborhood on Wednesday, a sheriff's spokesman said.

The white-haired suspect, Philip Winikoff, carried a black bag and claimed to be visiting on behalf of a local hospital.

"He told the woman that he was in the neighborhood offering free breast exams," sheriff's spokesman Hugh Graf said in a statement.

At least two women, both in their 30s, let him into their homes, and he fondled and sexually assaulted them, the investigators said.

Winikoff was not a doctor, Graf said. He worked as a shuttle driver for an auto dealership.

Just figured I'd share before heading off to get ready for work. Freaky old pervert...

I'm not sure if its sadder that he thought it would work or that it actually did

I agree, I read about this a couple of days ago - and I mean how stupid do you have to be to let some old guy feel you up simply because he says he's giving free breast exams. If interested, I got a couple of large brigdes for sale......

.... she became suspicious because he didn't use rubber gloves ?? "I'll take stupidity for 500, Alex". I'd had hoped people got suspecious after he told them he was giving out free breast exams and wanted to examine people outside a lab.... geez.

I like the photo that was published by Reuters:
http://us.news3.yimg.com/us.i2.yimg....4yHIAkYZz6eQ--

For what it's worth, the Miami Herald has an article that helps to explain how this happened:
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald...y/14382450.htm

Overtrusting immigrants, poor English, no health insurance, the idea that an old man is not capable of doing something like this...

This is certainly an extreme case, but all of us have fallen for something stupid at least once in our lives.

Von Dondu makes a good point. I would also be willing to bet that he either cased the homes of his victims beforehand or specifically targeted ethnic areas...

I think there is a stereotype out there that old men are far safer than younger ones. Plus, in some cultures the elderly are venerated and highly respected, which might have had something to do with it as well.

When I first read the whole "free breast exam" part of the thread title, I knew something was up. I have yet to hear of breast examinations that were free, were done by a roving doctor, and stuff like that.

Besides, can't people normally do self-examinations anyways? I'd rather creeps like this pervert never existed.
