This thread is for those like me who doesn't listen to the radio or MTV and has therefore, little clue about the good songs that are listened to these days.

Although this doesn't have to be just about modern songs...I'd like to hear from the GB people here what songs they like the best. I really need ideas, because I've been listening to the same cds for ages.

I don't care what genre you like, as long as you think it's good, I'll check it out.

So, what are the best songs/music (doesn't need to have a vocalist), out there, in your own opinion? It could be ones you have on your computer. Don't think too much.

(while spamming is allowed...as long as it is relevant to the topic...)

signed,
Lost One, the music depraved.

Well I'm glad people are concerned with good music as opposed to what's popular. I myself don't exactly no titles to a lot of songs I like, I just listen and enjoy. Now let's get to some of my picks.

Bouncing Souls: just about anything. something about heartfelt lyrics, the melodic "punk" although there's no suck thing as punk rock anymore, and the vocals. Everything thing from some of their older stuff where it's just about kids having a good time riding their bikes, playing soccer, and throwing everything in their basement off the roof to more mature songs about driving all night with nowhere to go

Red Hot Chili Peppers: I'm a huge fan of their earlier funk style when george clinton was their producer and you could only see them in random skate videos, but when they got the original line-up back something happened and it was great

Glenn Miller: If you haven't seen the Glenn Miller Story go rent it. If after watching it you don't at least appreciate bigband and swing music there's something wrong with you. Moonlight Serenade and Little Brown Jug are among my favorites from him.

Beastie Boys: I've been listening to them since Ill Communication. Everything from they're early days to today is virtually untouchable. From rock-rap to straight up hip-hop, non of that MTV crap they've been doin it right for almost 20 years now.

I could go on for days.... I don't really play favorites but some other genres are southern rock(ccr, lynrd skynrd), ska(british/jamaican style), classic rock(who, led zepplin), and the list goes on

There is a band that practices in a building in our backyard that opened for the Bouncing Souls a few months ago. I don't really know anything about the Bouncing Souls but they were pretty excited about it.

If you want to listen to any jazz, I suggest the album Kind of Blue. It's a must have for anyone into jazz. Time Out is another good jazz cd, songs with different time meters, very interesting.

Kind of Blue is the album that even people who aren't into jazz own.

I am appreciating Franz Ferdinand at the moment. Jerky 80s-influenced indie pop. Try Take Me Out.

I regards to giles picks, Pennywise is amazing, Bad Religion is aging and personally I'm only really a fan of their pre-Stranger Than Fiction work. Opy Ivy is classic, but Flogging Molly is the one I really dislike because I think they just saw what Dropkick Muphys were doing, added some more traditional instruments and capitalized. And frankly I don't see why people love them so much. Sorry for putting down one of your picks, but I felt voicing my opinion was appropriate while still being civil.
