[Ned Flanders]

Does anyone remember the game, Below the Root. it was a fantastic CRPG of the mid 80's. I had it for the commodore 64. I don't know what made me think of this title but for some reason it popped into my head. I did a search on google and, lo and behold, info on the game from windham classics. The game is based on the green sky trilogy by Zilphen Keatley or something like that. I've never read the books. I'm actually in line right now to download the game at some file planet or other. Crazy. Am I making any sense to anyone out there. Someone else has to remember this game.

Yeah, I found a place to download the game. It came as a zip file and within had two file labeled .dsk files. Not sure what to do with them. My feeling is these dsk files are proprietary and were used to load the game from the floppies every time. The Commodore 64 didn't have a hard drive, (not everyone is expected to know that anymore) so every time you wanted to play the game you had to load it from a double size 5.25 floppy disk. These dsk files must relate to the original file structure of the game although they mean little to today's MS PC. There has got to tools on the web for extracting the content of dsk files. I'll post back later if I have any success. thanks for the taking the effort fable, I think that's pretty cool.

i don't know what OS used those dsk files, but you will have to figur ethat part out and download an emulator.
i recently d/l an amiga emulator and have been trying to find certain games that i had a long time ago, for nostalgia if nothing else.

It would apppear I need an IBM/OS2 emulator. I found a utility called dskxtrct (dsk extract, yeah yeah) which is used to extract dsk files directly into a folder of your choice on a hard drive. Unfortunately, it will not run in a command prompt, thus the need for an emulator. I've not much experience with them although I'm want to try simply for the fact of learning how to do it. I doubt I'll even play the game but to figure out how to get it running would certainly be enough. thanks.

We used to have the pong console (don't know the real name)
On this console you could only play one game "Pong", that's it, no cartriges or something like it.
Kinda strange looking back to those days, I feel old indeed (even if I'm only 20 )
