Wouldn't offend me in the least. I'd have to say cancer, disease, especially sexually transmitted ones, would be natures way of cutting down on over-population, and it's terribly needed.

As for it hitting the ice caps, then you may have to deal with very, very large chunks of ice breaking off, spreading south/north into warmer climates and melting. With enough ice melting, it could cause flooding in addition to killing off the animals trapped on such large pieces off ice where they make their homes, and possibly lower the oceans temperatures for a time absorbing such a large quantity of ice. I'd have to say it hitting land would be the best thing if it did hit. Granted, there would be loss of life on land, but it hitting the ocean could have worse side effects than it simply crashing into a spot on land. Waves could kill people too, not to mention it disturbing things in the ocean, which could affect a large number of species, and end up affecting a large number of people too. I can just imagine it hitting the center of the North Pole and sending cracks throughout the whole northern ice cap, and the norther part of the world ending up flooding with significantly colder oceanic temperatures for a time, causing storms and such along with killing off fish and such.

Hitting the moon could cause a large effect on marine animals too if it knocked it out of orbit, or cracked it in half or something of the sort, affecting our tides.

We don't need to know exactly what gravity is or how it functions in order to plot the path of a celestial body accurately.

If you practice what you preach I fully expect you to be joining a suicide cult, if you haven't done so already. Population control starts with YOU.

edit: I created a motivational poster to motivate you:

Nice...unfortunately, if we kill those bright enough to see the problem and search for a solution, then you'll end up with only those CAUSING the problem. Won't work at all, we'd have to sign up for last on the list to see to it the problems fixed before heading off you know?

Those who believe the solution is mass murder don't rank amongst those who I consider 'bright'

I'm amused by the notion that we should destroy the earth ourselves before the asteroid gets here.

I'm amused and suprised that our earth is still here, regardless of any asteriod comming our nice little way.

I believe you took that entirely the wrong way, it's my opinion that nature has been dealing with ways to severly cut down human population for quite some time now through disease and an asteroid would simply be another way of doing so in my view. I personally believe a huge crisis threatening this planet could quite possibly absolve a large number of our population from believing everything is fine here when it isn't.

Vicsun:

My attempt at sarcasm must have failed horribly, but it holds a bit of the truth. Most people simply don't see, or refuse to acknowledge the problems with their environment, and those that do are seen as crazy people. Because of this, I probably will find it highly ironic and more than slightly amusing when those crazies turn out to be right and the masses panic and chaos ensues. There is a population problem and so long as people are in some semblance of comfort they won't care until things are too far gone. The countries that are far too overpopulated, some have instilled measures of population control but I find it terribly ignorant of humanities view that this planet is theirs to do with as they will and screw everything else living here. It will kill everyone eventually if not changed and undone. If I were some higher power, I'd definately send warnings to the ignorant children below me before stepping in to correct them. Plagues, disease, fire, things falling from the sky and such? Definately. Why not let them see theres a possibility of doom coming for them in a chance to change things before actually forcing the hand to create that doom for real?

I could be wrong with that, but logically, I see that as it making perfect sense. Granted, spirituality and logic tend to not go hand in hand, but definately a possibility in my book. Parents warn their children before sending them to time out and spankings.
