The horrible thing is that most people have always operated at this level. And I mean all of those involved. Is it any wonder we're petitioning Buck to startup a GameBanshee Island Retreat and Fishing Village?

| If that is in any way serious, as in if there is even a petition, please show me, I'd donate actual cash for that!

All this commotion just because some kid opened his Christmas present too early? Sheesh. A simple matter and they make a big fuss over it.

| | First of all, either that family is all sorts of messed up, or the article was poorly written. 12 year old boy, 27 year old mother, and 63 year old great-grandmother?! Does the whole family starting breeding between the ages of 14-15?
Second, after reading the whole article, I can see why she did it. However, somehow, I don't think it's going to change the boy. You don't really get punished for anything when you are 12 short of murder by the legal system. If you aren't afraid of the police, or spending a night in jail, then you can basically get away with whatever you want with only short delays as a child. At age 12 though, you are old enough to understand resposibility and that if you do something, bad things may come of it, and the why behind it. The kid is either just a wretched human being, or there is more going on in that home than was notified and he's acting out because of it.

Sure at twelve you understand responsibility but to call the kid a wretched human being, or to assume something else is going on, is hardly fair. Everyone engages in the search for christmas presents as a child, and it is hardly criminal. It may not be right, since he was told not to open it, but think, he is only twelve, home alone, and the presents are out, weeks before christmas. I think it is fair to assume most children couldn't resist that temptation. Wrong. Yes. Wretched person, no, normal maybe but not wretched.

Well, I can understand saying there is more going then on then was stated, simply because of the behavoiral issues, but to call him a wretched human being is not fair. And yes I had read the article, my comments were simply talking about the "arrested for opening his present" issue.

Nothing personal, I have problems with the entire species. Still, a 12 year old doing those kinds of things obviously there is something wrong in that household. Whether it be with the child or someone else and he is acting out isn't really relevant. A 12 year old is old enough to understand the consequences of his actions and decide on his own what to and not to do. Stealing and attacking cops like that shows he's either an idiot, desperate, or doesn't care. Not that I much care for police myself, but I'm not stupid enough to hit a cop without them coming after me with a gun or attempting to beat me first.

I think I'm sort of with Magrus on this one...
No, I don't think the kid is "wretched," but I do feel there are some very serious problems at play. This child is obviously exhibiting a pattern of behaviour. The question is, is it something residing solely within him, or are there factors in the home we don't know about?
Unlike many people, I do not view kids as "innocent," and I've never bought the "tabula rasa argument." I do not automatically assume that kids' behaviour is always the direct result of environmental circumstances, sometimes it just seems to be there.
When I was growing up I encountered a lot of truly awful kids... In my view William Golding had it spot on when he wrote Lord of the Flies.
All of that being said, I think the adults in this situations went far over the top; calling them "morons" pretty much sums it up . Phoning the cops on a kid who already exhibits that type of behaviour won't solve anything; indeed it will probably only make things far worse than they already are. That kid needs a highly skilled therapist (not one of the many idiot shrinks out there, but somebody really good), not a night or two in a jail cell

Haha I laughed as soon as I saw the title of the article. Thats a little harsh calling the cops even when he gave it back. I wonder if he still gets to keep the gameboy.

CNN.com Video | There's a point to that. You see, in America, it's the "in" thing to do to sue people in order to get money quick. If they did add the one demanded thing, someone would go "OmG! I can make 30 million dollars by whining and calling a lawyer!" and then do so. If people weren't so idiotic in regards to such things, the airport wouldn't have had to do that.
