| | | Are you a computer game addict? Some comments made by a few of our members lead me to ask. (Note, this includes singleplayer and multiplayer games.) Feel free to ignore the question if it seems too personal, or will interfere with your nation's charter of citizens' rights. Thanks.

| | So what punk?.
Well - I game a lot, and it is both multiplayer and single player although with a clear weight in multi over the latter years. (especially MMOs).
I find games to be more entertaining then for instance television and most movies, so I'd rather use my money on that.
Besides when playing MMO you can get in touch with many people also, much like on GB here, and I've got some good online "friends" via multiplayer games. Some I even miss playing with because we all scattered from DAoC.
But an addict?, well I can "stop" when I want to - hehehe, talk about cliches - but I know I can and do often in periods as the one I'm in now with loads of pressure, and then I only game in the weekends to get my mind of the project.
I also, thusly, find games a good way to leave tension and stress, not that I want to get rid of my stress cause I feed of it when running projects, but still - it is good to get ones mind of things and games do this brilliantly.
So what punk? |

| | I hardly ever play games anymore... Once upon a time, when BG2 was new, and Torment rocked my boxers, I played many hours a day long into the night. But now, I hardly touch my games. I can play a bit of Escape From Monkey Island once a week, but if I play more than an hour I get bored. No matter what game.
I didn't think you could grow out of computer games, but the market seriously lacks some games to keep me interested...

| | | I... have a confession to make. I no longer play.
At the moment the only game I have installed is chessmaster9K. I've even uninstalled solitare/minesweeper, but I never played them in the first place.
To enjoy a game I must fully concentrate on it and forget about the outside world for a couple of hours. Or days. But now I simply have too much work which I keep putting off. All in all homework takes me about two hours a day, but I can't be bothered to start until it's about 9/10 pm. I can't play before I've finished my homework, because I won't be relaxed and won't be able to concentrate on the game, but after I'm finished it's just too darn late to start gaming. And for some reason I can't start working until it's late. So... yea... the conclusion is, that I've stopped playing. It's a sad reality.

| | Well, if you no longer play, why haven't you chosen option #1 in the poll?

| | Because it's not a waste of time and money that could be spent on worthwhile activites. If there was an option stating "I don't play, but I wish I did" I'd choose it. That and I also play an occasional game of chess. Whether chess is considered a game (as in something that I can get hooked on and play for hours), is also a debatable point

| | Fair enough. I've changed the first polling option.

| | | I choose the latter option, only it's not everquest, rather a heady mix of morrowind, the commandos series, AvP, or whatever is to hand. all of which is broken up by meals, a little sleep, and a fair bit of trying to code a simple system for damaging armoured vehicles in my lttle game I'm toying with making.

I haven't played anything for a couple of months now, and the only game I've been playing at all over the last year, is Diablo II LoD, and this I've only been playing a couple of hours a week at most. I wish I could play more, but I simply can't give gameplaying much priority with my increased workload. The only period when I've played for hours and hours was when I joined this board, when I was recovering from an ulcer and my lab was down due to change of equipment. Since work is more fun than games, I never took the time to try out any new games after Neverwinter Nights, and since I was quite disappointed with that I didn't even finish it.

| | No time, which is a terrible shame because my brothers are now into computer games and they need a good butt kicking when it comes to the multiplayer variety
