I swear its looking more and more like its all coming to an end. 11,000 Dead so far... All the planet is vibrating Quote:
"Initially we just heard a bang, a really loud bang," Gerrard Donnelly of Britain, a guest at Phuket island's Holiday Inn, told Britain's Sky News. "We initially thought it was a terrorist attack, then the wave came and we just kept running upstairs to get on as high ground as we could."
"People that were snorkeling were dragged along the coral and washed up on the beach, and people that were sunbathing got washed into the sea," said Simon Clark, 29, a photographer from London vacationing on Ngai island.
On Phuket, Somboon Wangnaitham, deputy director of the Wachira Hospital, said one of the worst hit areas was the populous Patong beach, where at least 32 people died and 500 were injured.
Another survivor on Phuket was Natalia Moyano, 22, of Sydney, Australia, who was being treated for torn ligaments.
"The water kept rising. It was very slow at first, then all of a sudden, it went right up," Moyano said. "At first I didn't think there was any danger, but when I realized the water kept rising so quickly, I tried to jump over a fence, but it broke."
On Phi Phi island — where "The Beach" starring Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed — 200 bungalows at two resorts were swept out to sea.
"I am afraid that there will be a high figure of foreigners missing in the sea and also my staff," said Chan Marongtaechar, owner of the PP Princess Resort and PP Charlie Beach Resort.
| Holy crap. Mah... where was it you lived.

I hardly ever go on to the internet anymore but the scarcity of news is really frustrating.
Mah teaches in Bangkok, I really hope he is ok and there would be other members from around the region as well, I hope each and every one makes it out in one piece.
Phuket is a popular resort for a lot of people here especially after the Bali bombings, I hope the nations can successfully recover from this terrible disaster. Terrorism and now a massive earthquake/tsunami will really hurt a lot of the countries financially. The death toll is well over 12,000 and no doubt millions would be displaced from the damage.
On a much lighter note, aid is already being promised from a whole host of nations.

Tammy is right. I'm in Bangkok and I rarely go down south of Thailand. Been in Phuket 2 years ago and I KNEW those places I see on the net.
Thailand wasn't the only country affected. There's Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India. I think KidD01 is also safe in the mainland.

Are there any other members living in one of the disaster areas?

Best wishes to all those who had friends or loved ones in the tsunami-stricken areas (I have a couple of good friends in Malaysia and India myself), and sincere condolences to those who have lost them.

Wow.. That's nasty. I remember sitting in the confort of my hotel room in atlanta watching the weather channel as they covered the very block my job is located on. I was awfully worried that it wouldn't be there when I came back.. Lots of damage to the builing but we made it through all 4 hurricaines. I feel for the people of SE Asia though. They get it repeatedly every year it seems.
PS, RT are you from circle-city?

Almost 60,000 now. The World Health Organisation fears that amount will double, mainly because of the disasters that will follow: epidemics, hunger. It's very important that we keep sending money and goods; governments and ngo's tend to lose interest after a while.

| | Tsunami death toll tops 116,000
Of other effects - then the day is now 3 microseconds faster due to the earth being compressed by the quake, so it revolves around its own axies faster.
Also it is belived that parts of the island called Sumatra has moved 36 meters

We just gave money to the Red Cross Instant Relief. My wife and I have a lot of friends in Phuket, and I've got some in Sri Lanka too. We're really worried. The scope of this disaster is beyond belief.

I wonder if Scy fi writer Artur C Clarke hasnt been caught in the tsunami...
Saw a movie on tv yesterday that tore my heart apart. Kids were holding to a house inside the water, but their strenght was not enough to avoid being carried by the sea.
I'm horrified.
