I was just browsing the web when I ran across this article. Looks like the elks in Sweden are going to have to join AA (Alcoholics Anonymous).

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Police shot dead a drunken bull elk that attacked a young boy while intoxicated on fermented apples, Swedish daily Aftonbladet reported Monday.

The elk attacked the 8-year-old as he played in the garden of his home in the town of Karlskoga in central Sweden. The youngster was badly shaken but escaped serious injury, suffering only a bruised neck.

Elk, common in sparsely populated Sweden, are normally shy creatures but they can become aggressive when they eat rotten apples, a favorite winter snack that can make them drunk.

How about them apples?

This reminds me of a report I read concerning a moose...

Apparently this moose was walking down the street in a town somewhere in Canada. Some kids decided to get frisky and pelt the animal with snowballs. Unlike the story you're referring to, this one had tragic consequences....the moose became enraged, and killed at least one passerby.

ROFL! I was aware the Scandinavians had something of a reputation for ...appreciating alcohol...but I had no idea this phenomenon extended to the wildlife!

I had a Canadian girlfriend, once, who tried to get one of my cats (sweetest thing on earth) addicted to beer. (I put a quick stop to that.) I see the nations involved--Sweden, Canada--and I have to ask myself: why is it always the quiet ones that ultimately do the greatest mental and spiritual harm to their native animals?

Well I have to rise to the occation and defend my native home....The elks are know as being nutoriously stupid animals and so far i have to find and animal other that an elk that gets intoxicated over drinking a cup of coke.....and yae BTW we are not really quite, it's only that we are a small country and we are neutral....well we were neutral b4 joining the EU....and hence since we are on nobodys side, why would anybody care about what we say? this ignorance has been very good for sweden as we avoided occupation by Germany both in the first and second WW....and the cost of this is being seen as a quite country..... I can live with that

PS: this post might be a slight hyperbole.....

That might have been more convincing if you didn't have that grin emoticon right after relaying what your brother did, you know.
