Unfortunately, it was found to only contain cheap porn mags and dog-eared lingerie catalogs.... | Re: Re: Alexandria Library may have been discovered

Is that why you aren't an endangered breed?

@Gwally: Reminiscing about your glory days in the steamy South American jungles?

It is, of course, an utter piece of drivel. Tabloid bollocks, to say the least.
The original library of Alexandria was completely destroyed in the year 374 by the re-born christian emperor Theodosius I. He saw all texts not written by christians as heathen, and started the most monumental book-burning ceremony ever.
Scientists today argue the value of the Great Library. One thing they all agree upon is that the power structure of the entire planet would have looked quite different, since the old library showed accurate maps to untapped natural resources beyond belief in places like Africa and Asia. It might sound like Indiana Jones, but it's the actual truth.
There is a myth that refuses to die, telling the story of a Roman Senator named Augustus Venator who, according to the Roman historian Jacobius, managed to smuggle parts of the library, including the crystal casket of Hannibal, out of Alexandria, to an undisclosed location. Food for thought, and a lot more.
This, though, is tabloid bollocks.
