Hi Y'all, Morlock here, trying to reenter circulation here after an unfortunate hiatus.

So, in keeping with the memory of my movie thread- I just got two DVD boxets and four soundtracks which I've been waiting for forever and a day, so I'm in this temporary high, which is what inspired me to rejoin the GB community.
Thanx Buck! :) (I just never said that enough ;) )

Any way, here is the excuse for this lame attempt for starting conversation-

Having watched the 5+ hours of bonus features (on the two Appendices disks) listened to all the commentaries (about five or six I believe), and marveled at all the cool new stuff added (some of them big new scenes, others so subtle you’d have to watch the original cut of the film back-to-back with the new one to notice) I have to say it is without a doubt the best DVD I’ve ever had. Image Howard Shore’s modified soundtrack is great as well. Be sure to watch the credits all the way through (it goes on for literally 20-30 minutes). Most of the movie’s familiar soundtrack plays during the running of the credits, but at the end there is some brand-new music comprised (a really cool remix/continuation of the “Breaking the Fellowship” track). The whole thing is just awesome. Image

I agree...the extented edition added alot of good stuff (like all the Lothlorien stuff). :)

Good to see you again, @Morlock. :)

My wife and I just got the VHS version of Amelie, and Kurosawa's Ran (his Japanese samurai remake of King Lear). We've seen 'em both before, and they're damn good.

LotR Question

I bought the extended FotR DVDs recently as well, and found them to be exceptional. :) The added scenes are really, really good to see. :) I've never been real into commentaries, or "making-of" type things, but the "Appendices" are truly exceptional; and the actor commentary (the only commentary of the whole slew available that I have had time to listen to) was pretty good.

I do have a question for you LotR The Movie freaks: in the interviews, they mention a couple of times that Viggo Mortensen was not the guy that was originally cast in the role of Aragorn - and that they in fact had some other dude on set and doing the part before they decided they didn't like him and switched. My question is: who was the first Aragorn? :confused:

Interestingly, we just rented Amelie as well, along with Happenstance. I love watching the occasional non-Hollywood film! Nothing like a good, unpredictable, enjoyable story that isn't 'canned'.
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

I also like the occasional foreign film. I recently saw 'Y Tu mama Tambien', which is a really excellent Mexican movie.

I saw "Tesis", which was a very weird (and good) Spanish movie about snuff films...worth watching if you're not too squeamish ;)

For those that own the Extended LotR DVD here are some hidden scenes you can access. An MTV Spoof of the Council of Elrond scene can be found by going to the Scene Selection menu on disc one, and heading to the final page where you'll find the real "Council of Elrond" scene. Highlight that scene and press Down to find an image of the Ring. Press Enter to view the entire clip from MTV complete with an introduction from Peter Jackson.

For the four minute trailer for "The Two Tower" (originally added to the end of the Fellowship during its final months in theatres) go to the Scene Selection menu on disc two and navigate your way to the final page where you'll find the chapter with the Fan Club Credits. Move the cursor to the numbers on the far right of the screen, and when it's on "48", press Down to make an image of the Two Towers appear. Press Enter to view the trailer in full anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.
