| | Has anyone played SACRED ? I recently purchased SACRED. Anyone out there played this game. It starts off very much like Divine Divinity. If you have played this game what do you think about it? It got a high rating on Gamespot. |

| | | Didn't think much of it. It's really not at all like Divine Divinity, but far more like Diablo. Only I found it even more repetitive than Diablo.

Well pretty much all games get high marks these daysso thats not saying much. And if it is anything like Diablo I plan on staying as far away from it as possible.[Sarcasm] So thank you for ruining my gaming experience!! [/Sarcasm]

| | | I wasn't thrilled with it. it was mildly entertaining and generally nicely presented, but the scaling of the difficulty is not as challenging as Divine Divinity, and the random items and so forth are frankly over-complicated - to the point that it took a pen and paper and a few minutes note-taking to actually work out the relative merits of many of the weapons (and this is early in the game) yet their influence on combat is harder to judge thanks to combat mechanics that make for lovely screenshots but are actually rather slow and vague.
and talking of slow and vague, there's the plot and locations. the world certainly looks lovely, but as you get shunted around between stunning locations fighting miscellaneous enemies for no good reason, you really can see the merit of random maps (or an annoyingly limited range of colours) as long as there is some purpose for the random slaughter - or a damn good reason why a bloody great big horde of heavily-armed orcs are hanging around just outside town.
oh, and the big shiny maps take a lot of disc space. just thought I'd mention it.

| | | I played Sacred a while ago. It was decent. Sacred is a Diablo-inspired game, but not nearly as good. The quests are very boring becuase they are ALL THE SAME!! Kill this baddie, retrieve this item, blah blah. And unless you get all the recent patches the game has countless bugs, so be carefull playing without them. All in all, not a bad game... but not a great one.

| | | I thought I'd throw in my pro-Sacred opinion since everyone else has contributed negative comments. I like the game more than Diablo 2 since it has better options on how you enhance your items. Socketing is better, and you get set and unique items easier. The only downfall I see so far is with getting combat arts too high. If you do that, special attacks take a LONG time to regenerate which leaves you open. I've not seen any use for creature summoning, and magic skills seem focused on only a few that can cause damage at the higher difficulties. I do like being able to choose skills for my characters, and you have enough freedom to try unconventional character builds just like in Diablo 2.

| | | I actually wasn't trying to shun the thought of playing Sacred. It is a decent game that any Diablo II fan, that's bored of Diablo II, should play. The only reason I haven't played through it, is because I find it very repetative and boring. If you want to do the same four quests the whole game and level up in the process, this game was made for you! But for me, I can't stand it. This opinion might be somewhat inaccurate considering I didn't complete the main quest. For all I know the main quest could be the most engrossing storyline known to gamers everywhere!! However, I highly doubt it.

| | | My wife and I found Sacred/underworld to fill the void that was there when we got bored with Diablo2 LOD. There were many bugs in the thing. get the patches.
It was not as good as Diablo but we spent many hours just the same playing away entire weekends. We liked the graphics, and the charactor choices. It definetly gets repetitive. Go save my daughter, wife, prisoners, etc, but we did it from start to end with more than on charactor (as compared to all the charactors of diablo).
There is supposed to be a Sacred 2 released at some point and we will get it when it comes out. |

| | | If they make a Sacred II, I will check it out. Sacred could have been so much better than it was, if only a bit more time was spent on it. Hopefully, the sequel will include all that it's predecessor lacked.

| | Now that this new discussion thread and an even newer forum to go into, I'm moving it and leaving a redirect for anyone who wants to continue the discussion.
I've read a little on this game, but I missed a great deal during a time when I pretty much drew away from gaming. Would anybody recommend getting or not getting this game...?

| | | Not getting. It's extremely repetitive in all senses of the word: quests, weapons/items, monsters, etc.

| | | My thoughts on Sacred Sacred, well , (deep sigh),
Sacred was inteded to be something that it failed to be. Sacred was meant to be a diablo like game. Where I beleive it failed is in the monotony of the quests and enemies. I found that each quest was so similar to one another it nearly bored me to tears. When I look back and examine the classes, they seemed to blur together creating no clear distinction, meaning they all played the same. The game lacked the online options that Diablo had as well, another failing. The people who purchased this were more than likely diablo fans hoping to find somthing similar to it. The world was startlingly all the same, enemies and there Ai about as smart as a Lagraik on Juma. Just my thoughts though.

| | | I thought the biggest strength to Sacred was the open-ended exploration you could do in the game. Nobody is 'forcing' you to do quests with the exception of the primary ones. Diablo 2 is far more repetitive than Sacred is in my opinion. Diablo 2 has been hacked by numerous people, but the online experience for Sacred remains hack free on the servers. I'm just trying to say that Sacred provides an alternative to Diablo 2.

You have got a point there, concering the hacks. thanks for pointing that out.
I just think if the world had been different, as in Drasticly new backgrounds, I just felt like all I was doing was playing fetch the whole time, but you have valid points as well.

| | | Darkmistress25, thank you very much for your well thought-out reply. I do acknowledge the repetitive nature of the combat for Sacred, but I thought I'd point it's not completely a mindless 'point and click' system. Sure the quests are pretty much 90% fetch and return missions, kill foozle, or some other lame quest. There are nice little easter eggs within the game and one specific quest that I know of. Even with the open-ended map in Sacred, you're bound to explore almost all of it eventually. For me, I enjoyed finding new or hidden areas on a game. Far too many popular RPGs are linear in nature, offshoots of a successful formula(Dungeon Siege 2 would be an example), or sequels. I for one would rather encourage developers like Ascaron who are willing to take risks(though minimal for their product in my opinion) and bring something of value to the action RPG market.
