While it is true that the story is not really original, it is still one of the best I have personally seen in a video game. Let's not forget that we are talking about a video game here, not about a novel. How many video games have a story that is not full of clichés? I know there are others, but right now, the only one that comes to my mind is PS:T.
I am not trying to say I know better than you, this is my humble opinion based on the games I have played. FF VII is probably in my top 5 or 6. I don't see it as a masterpiece, but I really enjoyed it. I don't have any console by the way, so it might explain why I found the FF VII gameplay original since there are not many games like it on the PC. |
Looks like I'm in the same boat as you here. I also don't own a console. FFVII was demonstrated to me some years ago by a friend of mine when I visited his house (on the PC, that is). Found it interesting and decided to go out and buy it. I personally find it excellent, given the fact that this is only one of the Final Fantasy games released on the PC (aside from FFVIII and FFXI). And yes, for the last paragraph, I agree. By comparing it to recent RPGs, I still find FFVII more original than the others I've played so far.
