The Fall - Last days of Gaia

Here is a link to the main site.
Anyone checked this game out? It looks like an unofficial Fallout 3.
And i read some great revieuws about the game.

The only weird thing is that it should come out this month, but i havent found a gamestore where they know anything about this game.
And it's a german game (if i'm not mistaken) so it should be weird if it only launches outside Europe.

Actually, there's already a thread on the Fall here. I'll leave for a day or so to gather some attention, and then merge the two threads together.

The Fall will be officially released in German-Speaking countries on November the 19th. I don't know anything about a realease-date in other countries.

Although the release date is the 19th, many Germans already have the game ( it can be already in bought in some German stores; and those who ordered it at amazon should have gotten it today).

I surfed through the German Support Forum and well, it doesn't look that good. Many have hardware-related problems with the game - it's running very slowly or it isn't running at all. Especially people with an ATI Radeon 9700 graphic-card can't play the game properly. Silver Style Entertainment already released a patch which adds new content ( party-based inventory; more detailed map) and which fixes some performance problems. But the problems with the 9700 ATI card aren't fixed yet - SSE is working on it.

Well, I'm going to wait until friday. If new patches are released until then and if the game runs properly then I'll perhaps buy it. If more problems occur and if the game turns out to be crappy...well, then I'll probably won't buy it. Perhaps I'll wait for some reviews to come.

BTW, the official forum doesn't work right now. The guys also have some problems with the database or something...

And yeah, I AM somehow disappointed.

I'm surprised to hear of such problems. I expected that this game would have been tested enough. I hope for them the patches will work well, else there are in big trouble I guess.

I heared the Enlish release will be in Jan/Feb 2005, let's hope they have fixed all the bugs then.
I still think this game looks promissing.

Well, I bought it today. **** the reviews . I read some opinions at the official forums and those who can play it without problems say that it is great. I haven't played it yet, I'm downloading the update right now...

I'm not a lucky guy...I could install it, I can start it...but I can't read ANYTHING, because all I see are graphic-bugs or...nothing. The problem is known...but...damn...

You're right, but I think it's stupid to let us wait so long. Why didn't they made a English version in the first place? Do they really thing it will be bought more in German speaking countrys because it's in German. I don't mind if a game is not in my native language but in English.

They are German developers, it's just natural that they released a German version in the first place. Usually we have to wait for a German version of a game, because most games aren't done by German developers. Now it's just vice versa. So...just go on with complaining

The third patch was already released and I'm installing it right now. The game with version 1.2 was playable. And it's good. But I only played about an hour. Some German game-mags testet it and it got something between 83% to 84%. It's not breathtaking. But like I said, I only played about an hour...

Some critcized that the game's too short. Someone at the official forum said something about 11 hours....

But most of those who played the game said that it's a good game and that everyone who likes RPGs should play it - the story is said to be very good, as well as the character development and the quests. The combat system could be better though...

Well -no matter how much I'm into RPGs, I'll never buy this game if that 11hour statement holds even some validation.
Didn't I read on the website (have to look up) that the campaign was supposed to take 50ish hours? (which is already to little for me in this day and age - I really *don't* like short games incase people were wondering)

Yep, something like this was said...
And it stunned me as well. I hope it's just false information.

EDIT:
I opened a thread at the official forum. Let's clear this up...

@Monolith
Please keep us (non-German speaking) people updated on the progress. Like Xandax said, 11 hours is just too short for me. 50 hours is okay, but I would prefer longer than that too.

I've had my eye on this game for a little while (spotted it over at Duck & Cover) but I wasn't sure of the (English version) release date. Is it confirmed that it is Jan/Feb 2005?

Cheers all,
TGHO

No problem.

SSE's support is outstanding. They released another patch yesterday. Version 1.4.

And Carsten Strehse, the leaddesigner, said that *he* needed exactly 31 hours and 23 minutes to reach the end. And he knows every solution. The testers needed about 40 to 50 hours. Those who said that they needed about 12 hours were victims of the buggy in-game time-counter.

The 40 to 50 hours include playing all maps and making most of the sub-quests. That's not very much, but better than 11 or 12 hours...
