| | | RPGs with good dialogue What I'm looking for are RPGs with good dialogue options. Fable: TLC fell short for me in this because you couldn't say anything more specific than a yes or no. Basically, what I am looking for are RPGs that have great storylines, dialogue and NPC interactions.
Games like this that I enjoyed:
Planescape: Torment
Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines
Kotor 1 and 2
Baldur's Gate 2
Jade Empire
Can anyone recommend some other games like this? Games that are based more on story and character interaction than fighting or dungeoncrawling?

| | | You could try Neverwinter Nights: hordes of the underdark, I think it's superior to the original in everything, but most of all in dialogue. I really liked it, but there is alot of combat

| | | Thanks. I've already played that, but it is a good suggestion. I enjoyed it, though. Definitely preferred it to the original NWN game.

| | | Try Diablo. (Just kidding!)
Have you played the Fallout games? Character interaction is not excellent, but the story is very fun and it gives you options.
The first Vampire: The Masquerade (Redemption) has nice dialogues and a nice story, although it is very linear and does not give you any options.

Great story and you can interact with other characters (though it is only at certain parts of the story). Pretty linear RPG, though.

| | | There is a severe shortage of such games. To your list I might add Divine Divinity, if you like funny dialogues. If memory serves, Arcanum's dialogues were also decent. Both games even have something I might be willing to call a storyline. But don't expect anything close to Planescape.

| | | Maybe the original Deus Ex qualifies as well?
Also, nearly ancient this one: Anachronox. a CRPG in the style of Final fantasy, but it has lots of sidequests and interaction. |

| | | Try Sudeki. It's rather linear, and more of an action adventure rather than rpg but it has leveling and one awesome storyline with twists and turns. The dialoge is really well done and it's a long game too, 15-20 hours for the main quest

But gameplay length doesn't count when it's a good game. |

Pretty linear RPG, though. | Nice recommendation. FF VII is probably in my top 5 games ever. If it wasn't for some very childish quests and another thing I won't say because it would spoil the story, I would consider it perfect. It does not give you much freedom in character customization and advancement (I guess this is why some people say it is not a RPG), but the story is one of the best I have seen in a video game.
I enjoyed Anachronox too, but would recommend FF VII before it.
I would also second Lady Dragonfly for Arcanum.

I still consider it an RPG (albeit linear) due to the fact that there are quite a number of RPG elements present in that game. Quote:

| | Unless I'm mistaken, nobody has recommended KotOR I & II yet. Starwars + d20, what more could you ask for?
Also, if you can find it, do give Anachronox a try. |

| | | To all: remember, this thread is about RPGs with good dialog options. Nothing more, nothing less. If you want to discuss good RPGs, go to the threads for that purpose. Thanks.
