| | | Need some RPGs I need some RPG game recommendations, because I am thoroughly turned-off by the current staple of RPGs.
1) Gothic 2: very big, open world, but I just can't stand the clunky interface.
2) Morrowind: It's non-linear, but it's also lifeless in terms of story, NPCs, interaction, etc. I can't stand walking for hours without doing anything.
3) KOTOR: Played it too much.
4) Infinity Engine games: Played them too much.
5) Wizardry 8: currently playing, but I find the combat to be a little bit tedious, but not bad.
Now, I've heard good things about Divine Divinity and Arx Fatalis, so can you guys give me your opinions on those games.
P.S.: I know Fable will probably recommend King of Dragon Pass, but I don't have a credit card, so I can't purchase the game online.

| | | LOL! Have you tried PS:T, or BG2? As for Divine Divinity, it starts out feeling like an upgraded Diablo and quickly turns into something more like Ultima VII without a party. I like it, a lot.

| | ooh, cheers for that reccomendation, Fable. it's in the sale at the moment...
right then. arx fatalis is... odd. relatively fun in its way and fairly absorbing, but possibly an aquired taste. and the graphics are buggy. and I dislike a lot about the control system.
if you can find the demo, play it, but the game itself is fairly limited in a lot of ways. claustophobic, sometimes. and there's more plot in my little finger, frankly. some interesting puzzles though. if it's cheap, I'd cautiously reccomend it.
you got neverwinter nights? I wasn't overly impressed, but shadows of unrentide was everything the first one should have been, apart from the length. and with the hordes of something or other expansion out there too, not to mention the piles of downloadable gubbins, it could end up being worth it.

| | | @Robnark:
Yeah, I downloaded the demo for Arx Fatalis, and in someways I want to play, but in other ways I don't. First, I like the Ultima Underworld feel of the game, and it's interactivity with the environment. But I don't really like the claustrophic (albeit atmospheric) environments, and the somewhat dated graphics. I don't know, I'll think about it.
As for Neverwinter Nights, I bought the game and all of its expansions, but the game is so buggy on my ATI Radeon card that it literally crashes every ten minutes. NWN has had an extended history of not working on ATI cards, given that Bioware programmed the game with Nvidia cards in mind. I am putting off NWN for a while until I upgrade my videocard.
So far, I've ordered Divine Divinity, which looks like my kind of RPG game. I'll see how that goes.

| | | Deus Ex 1 and System Shock 2 if you're into those sorts of games. Maybe even Thief, which is an interesting take on the FPS genre.

| | | And of course, if you haven't played the Fallout series, by all means, do!
Arx Fatalis was made by same guys who made Gothic - hence the clunky interface.
Divine Divinity was ok. Prefer Arcanum over that one, though.

| | | @humanflyz: that's odd. NWN runs fine on my 9200 and it even fixed my computer's sound problems.
