| | | For those of us who have grown up worshiping RPG's, narrowing it down to one favorite is incredibly difficult, if not impossible! There are many different styles of RPG's, and there is no way I could pick a single one.
If I had to pick, these are roughly my top 10:
I. Final Fantasy VII
II. Final Fantasy VIII
III. Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
IV. Baldurs Gate II: Shadows of Amn
V. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
VI. Fable
VII. Dark Cloud
VIII. Chrono Trigger
IX. Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance
X. Star Wars: KOTOR

| | Some of those are MMOs, and this is an RPG Discussion forum. Mind flushing out the RPGs you like?

Can someone explain to me how exactly Diablo or Diablo 2 are justified RPG's? I mean, really. The closest bit of RPG content in those games is the farce of a 'character' development Blizzard included. |

But the game is funny, and if the market sold it as RPG the customer may have the right to call it that way.
Nobody posted as this but, my favourite freeware RPG is Ahriman's prophecy. You cant really shape the destiny of any realm, but hey, it is rather good for a free game. |

It's a hokey argument. |

| | | I agree and, as creator of this thread with its moderator's support (Aegis) I hereby declare that DIABLO WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED AS AN RPG FOR THE PURPOSE OF THIS THREAD. THINK OF A REAL RPG FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. |

| | Diablo 2 is not exactly an RPG, considering that it has many MMO attributes, along with a more active role in your charcters actiuons and movements not typically allowed. In fairness to all parties involved, it is more of a hybrid of sorts.
Back on topic...
EDIT- Sorry all, badly explained post: http://www.gamebanshee.com/forums/sh...6&postcount=75

| | | @Aegis: I've read some of your previous threads. You should realize and respect that other people are allowed an opinion that differs from your own. Just because their opinion doesn't match yours, does not mean it's wrong. Hill-Shatar is correct. Diablo II was marketed as an 'action-RPG.' In a sense Diablo II is sort of RPG-like, with character development and the skill point allocation. I also agree that it has many MMO qualities, and not the least of which is its HUGE online community. Diablo II, after this many years, still manages to captivate its fans. In other words, despite your opinion-based dislike of the game, Diablo II has obviously done something right.
@TonyMontana1638: Ok. So what exactly is a "real" RPG? Final Fantasy? Chrono Trigger? Although both of these titles are beautiful examples of a great classic RPG, it does not explain why Diablo II is not accepted among them. Yes, Diablo is different, but that's what makes it great. It's not our fault that you began playing the game expecting another "real" RPG. If your going to state your opinion, and call it fact, back it up with details rather than your simple desire to be law.

| | | I would have to say Eye of the Beholder is my favorite RPG (the first one)
But by no way the best.
After all those long nights playing D&D atlast a game i could play on my own in the D&D world. This was the first one i played. Then there was Dungeon Master,in a strange fun way it was kind on cool that you had to draw your on maps, graph paper every where, but at least you could easy add your own notes,There are quite a few other games i played back then, but if i could only have one game then it would be BG2

Ack! Ok, you got me Kahlan considering I just posted a response to someone's post in another thread similar to the one you just gave me, I hate to say it but I have officially been a hypocrite. In all honesty, I just wanted the thread to get back on topic instead of devolving into a debate on the merits of Diablo II, however instead of remaining true to my purpose I, tyranically, tried to squash mention of Diablo for good (obviously a stupid and arrogant move on my part... I've been trying to kick my caffeine addiction this week and it's made me a wee bit edgy as my girlfriend has been happy to point out). As for my opinions on Diablo 2, though I admit to liking the game (just not as much as everyone else apparently... I don't get what's so great about it), you can read them in previous posts in this thread which, if you had bothered to look, are very clear and are supported by "details" supplied by others which I voiced my agreement with. If you don't want to go back and look, most of what Aegis has said I completely agree with, also Xandax's comment #47. I once again aoplogize for being an arrogant (expletive deleted) in asserting my opinion to be fact, but it's your fault you jumped in on this debate midway through and didn't bother to consider what might already have been said.
And in Aegis's defense he also has provided reasoning for his opinions, and has not been asserting that the opinions of others are wrong just because they're different form his; he has been debating and arguing like everyone else here. It seems to me you're the one who's become defensive about your opinion and are (incorrectly) viewing the opinions of others (and their right to assert them) as attacks on you personally. For God's sake dude why don't you argue back instead berating others for voicing their opinions. Though I was at fault in my last post, everyone here has been fairly and effectively arguing their point of view; try joining in if you want to say something.

My opinion is always debatable, of course, as many will have bought the game under the RPG title section. However, the merits of Diablo II is now argued in another thread.
So, debating Diablo is not the point of this thread, so it is somewhat off topic.
