| | | Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Anyone know about this game? I just herd about it and am hoping for an old school RPG. A real RPG not this hack and slash linear garbage gaming companies have been spoon feeding the masses. |

| | | I'm afraid the info I've read does indicate it's a short-winded hack 'n slash.

| | | Not what I've heard about this one, no. If you're familiar with the old series, then the developers speaking today about "pulse-pounding action" and how "nobody really likes those endless RPGs that go on forever" will sound like the deathknell of Might and Magic. It was always about having the time to figure out what you wanted to do, or could do, in any battle or anywhere else; and the games all took about 100 hours to play, each. They were heavy in plot and combat, had moments of humor, very cleverly constructed with plenty of skills and profession types, and pretty near as non-linear as could be.
If you don't mind the poor look of early 3D games, try M&M VII. It's still great fun, and the Arcomage cardgame you could play in its taverns (there was a quest associated with it) is worth the price, alone. Or go back to M&M III or IV/V (which could be played together as the World of Xeen) to see what the team could do back then. Better still, for the toughest puzzles, try M&M II. That was extremely difficult to play, but fun.

| | Ive played the long and open ended RPGs...I liked it. Unfortunately, I am looking for a newer one, as my computer yells at me when I try to put in an older game.
It confuses me greatly. Mostly because it thinkg that these games are using non existent technology. Like sticking a floppy in an xp without the slot. There was a long winded technical explanation, but they lost me half way through.
If anyone wishes to know, Ive found out that this title is to be released in the summer of 2006, about 10 months away.

| | | Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Mr_Sir's mentioning Dark Messiah of Might and Magic in the Heroes of Might and Magic thread got me interested in watching the E3 demo of that game. Was quite impressed with the demo. So, I've decided to start a thread about Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. The reason I've started this thread is because I wanted to know what are your impressions of the game. What is your opinion regarding this game?
Oh, by the way, if you're not familiar with this game, I'd advise you to head over to the Dark Messiah of Might and Magic official website to learn more.

| | It looks ok, but still undecided about it. I must admit though that I haven't really done much other than look at the screenshots, so I may have to watch some of the videos lol.
(On a side note, Dark Messiah is included in the Might of Magic forum, its just Heroes that isn't so feel free to post about it there ) |

| | Well, you could try looking for the E3 demo trailer at GameTrailers.com. Its resolution is much better. By the way, just one question. Isn't Dark Messiah of Might and Magic some sort of 1st person action game? I've seen the E3 demo and the guy demonstrating the game said that its a 1st person action game himself. So why is this game in the Might and Magic forum even though its not an RPG?
EDIT: Forgot to include the link to the site. My apologies.

| | | According to the developers it is an Action RPG. I'm not entirely sure why it is included in the Might and Magic forum rather than have a forum in the Action RPG section, but the description for the Might and Magic forum says that it includes Dark Messiah. |

| | Well, I went and take a look at Gamespot and they classified it as a Fantasy First Person Shooter. Also went to Ubisoft's website but they classified it as 'Action'. I knew that game looks and played like an FPS except that you use swords and magic instead of guns.
P.S. Thanks, Mr_Sir and Bloodstalker.

| | Just finished playing the Dark Messiah of Might and Magic demo and here's its system requirements according to the demo's readme file: System Requirements
Supported OS: Windows® XP
Processor: AMD Athlon™, Pentium® 2.2 GHz (3 GHz recommended)
RAM: 512 MB (1 GB recommended)
Video Card: 128 MB DirectX® 9-compatible video card (256MB recommended)
Sound Card: DirectX 9 compatible sound card
DirectX Version: DirectX 9 or higher
Hard Drive Space: 3 GB free
Peripherals Supported: Windows-compatible mouse and keyboard
Supported Video Cards:
NVIDIA® GeForce™ FX/6/7 families
ATI® Radeon™ 9/X families
Laptop versions of these cards are not fully supported.
When I downloaded the demo, its a whopping 1.38GB. Upon installing it, it ballooned up to 2.8GB! This is the first time I've installed a demo of this size before.
Here's my take on the demo: Since my computer has 512MB RAM, the loading is kind of slow so I'd recommend getting 1GB RAM for this game. As for the performance, I could play the game quite smoothly though thanks to my RAM, the game sometimes hitches here and there but nothing serious that will spoil your play time. As for the graphics, its good to look at even though I disabled HDR lighting. The game managed to perform fairly well on my Geforce 6200 so for those whose computer can run Half-Life 2, this game will run fine on your system.
The game is quite fun to play, though I only get to play it for only 15 minutes before the demo ended. The concept of using the environment to your advantage is really cool here. Just kick some idiot to a wall full of spikes and he's dead. Even the combat itself is kind of solid too. Feels a bit like playing an FPS except with swords and magic plus bows too.
