Ok, I was hyped when I first heard about POR. What they were trying was new, exciting, and if it worked, would be something to see. I mean come on, how many DnD games are out there that use the 3E rules, have interactive terrains? None that I know of. So I eagerly awaited the news as it slowly trickled out. A little delay here, a little delay there...nothing major as we are use to delays.
Then came the changes. No Gnomes, Paladins, Mages, Bards, nor Druids. Your feats were pigeon-holed and you had no selection as to which ones you got(as the 3E rules allow). Ok, I admit, this kinda got me upset. I questioned why they would do such, listened to their explainations and decided to still give it a shot, though they have since added the Paladin. Now I hear about them removing the interactive terrains..ya know moving a chair or such to block a door, jumping on top of a table to get fighting leverage and such. Why? They have delayed this game time after time and now they are removing one of its major selling points. There are even rumors that the game might not even be RELEASED!
I do not know about all of you but I am seriously confused and dissapointed here. The POR website has no updates, I can find no reply as to why the Dev Team is doing this. Why do companies continually do this? They advertise the products as being able to do one thing but then over time they keep changing their statements to say it will no longer do that now? Yet they still want our money!
Man this seriously depresses me.

Dar,
I haven't been keeping up with any of the info on PoR, but that bums me out greatly if all that stuff is not going to be in there! I mean, how canthey not have GNOMES!!! And I was definitely looking forward to jumping up on tables and stuff.... man... this stinks...

The fact that gnomes, mages, interactive terrain, etc were not going to be in the game has been stated for several months now. You'll still have access to the Sorceror, Barbarian, and Monk though, and up until BG2 this was a huge addition.
Now, the point made about the game never being released definitely isn't substantiated. I actually just spoke with a Ubi Soft PR person yesterday on the phone and she assured me the game would be in stores in September (yes, it's no longer end of August). They were sending out press information yesterday as I was talking to her, so I can't imagine they'd be sending that out if the game was indeed vaporware.
All in all, I think that PoR is still going to be a great game, regardless of the ommissions and delays. How can a 3rd Edition AD&D game in 3D be bad? =)

Don't get me wrong, as I fully intend to get the game, it's just that this game has suffered delay after delay and omission after omission. Sooner or later after all the delays and omissions, something has to give. Many people who were hyped about the game are not so hyped any longer, some who were neutral about it, now want nothing to do with it.
The constant delays and changes are, in fact, severely hurting the games potential sales. Would you want a game that is constantly being delayed and changed? We have yet to see Warcraft III, will PoR fall under this aspect now?

Concerning Warcraft III, Blizzard has a reputation for endless delays which is definitely deserved. PoR, however, got caught in the terrible Learning Company fiasco that killed SSI, and was subsequently shunted over to Infogrames. These changes slowed work, and it was understandable.
I spoke with the PR head at Infogrames last Thursday. He told me that they want a literally bugfree game: *nothing* that requires a patch. Here's hoping.

| They can dream, can they...
No game is bug free, Inforgames would know that by now.
I wonder about that game since no updates in any place about it have been made.
I think I have my questions awered now...

Buck and all: I recently made some rather unbecoming comments about PoR2 on this forum. Upon further investigation and discussion, I have come to the conclusion that I was in error, and for that I am sorry.
I have learned why changes have been made as well as the reasons behind the delays. The interactive environments are still there just that you can't jump onto tables nor move stuff to block doors anymore.
So once again let me say that I am sorry and do look forward to purchasing PoR2 when it becomes availiable.

Beta code being sent to reviewers isn't being sent any longer, and the PR folks are keeping mum about expected due dates. Latest word is that the game might be postponed for a long time.

Actually, Fable, we just received an updated build last week. Both Garrett and Marcus seem pretty sure of the September 25th release date. Hopefully things go as planned, as I'm pretty excited about this game.

I give it mid to late October. This is also what Chuck recently said on the official site news updates (except he stated early October).

Then it appears that the development folks and the PR folks are not quite in touch with one another.
