weapons in PoR

I recently noticed that unlike in IWD an BG weapons in PoR have no delay. Is this related to the fact that PoR uses 3E and the other 2 use 2E? Oh an I have not yet bought the game yet but have been watching my freind play it so what i want to know is if weapons have no delay then how is combat worked out and does that mean that greatsword is just as fast as a shortsword?
Thnx in advance.

Correct, weapons in PoR have no speed factor. Your attacks per round can be found in a table at the back of the PoR manual. And the battle systems are completely different and are incomparable.

The difference from 2E is that you gain more attacks when gaining levels and not from the type of weapons you use, that means that you will have the same attacks either with a bow or a greatsword unlike 2E that other from the level of the character the attacks are measured also from the type of weapon. The only thing i'm not sure is if the speed factor was excluded from 3E or from this game only.

just look the weight of the weapon and you will have a good idea of its speed factor (the heaviest the slowest!).

It might look that hitting with a two-handed sword is slower than a shortswort but the attacks are not affected by the type of weapon, when you reach a level that you can perform 3 attacks, you attack three times with any kind of weapon, so the speed factor is only visual in the game.

In 3E DnD they actually dropped weapon speed... You only get your dex bonus to initiative (like in PoR), so you could say that (with the max dex bonus of your armor) that they changed weapon speed for armor speed...

Technically, however, an unarmoured character wielding a greatsword would have as many attacks in a round as one wielding a dagger, and EVEN at the same initiative... He couldn't wield two greatswords, however, whereas he could easily wield two daggers and (with the appropriate feats) get more attacks that way. So they just gave big weapons another kind of penalty: you can't dual-wield them so easily.

From what I know, you can't dual-wield at all in PoR..or are you talking about the d-w from the PnP DnD? In that case, yeah..you can dual, hehehe
