Post lockpick is an item?

there's this door way to the north of the Main Halls that says i need a "lockpick" to open. it's in the same room as the fountain that does -1 WIS but increases the party's experience. once u drink it, a master shadow appears and attacks. there's a stairway behind that door. where does it lead? and should i have gotten that "lockpick" somewhere in the Main Halls?

I believe I've cleared up every single place now (except the one above), and i'm at the junction where i decide to up or down after killing the scarred mage.

should I head upstairs to the Halls of Stone or down into the Deep Halls 1st? which would cause the least "running around the place". hate all that walking around empty space.

i've realised that every time u find a door that requires something to open, just put a marker in the map and move on someplace else. sooner or later, u'll find something to open it. as for locked doors with stairs inside, it's usually "openable" from the other side.

The lockpick is found in a room up in the Hall of Light which incidentally is the room that leads down to the lockpick room! Does it sound familiar. This happens several times in this game.
