Keep the Helm Cleaver, or give it to the Orogs?

I just defeated the Orog Champion. Do I let them keep the Helm Cleaver and take the gloves, or should I keep the Helm Cleaver?

Does it make any difference to the game?

i did the same thing due to having more powerful weapons already and was wondering the same thing? does anyone know???

If you give them the Helm Cleaver they will give you the gloves to keep. Otherwise they will let you keep the HC

I have found the the Helm Cleaver is one of the best weapons in the game. I gave it to my fighter and his strength with the WC is 21. He gets 3 swings per round and that's usually enough to polish off most enemies, except wraiths (the always upsetting 'Weapon fails to penetrate incorporeal opponent'). Otherwise, it's great!

At the time you get it Helm Cleaver is very good, but soon +5 weapons abound, and those with other advantages (e.g. stat enhancing) aren't rare. While +3 Strength is perhaps unique, there appear to be swathes of items that give +2 (at least two gloves for a start). Also HC is 2-handed which removes shield usage lowering your AC.

IOW it's good, but it's not to lose sleep over...

Well, I personally have a 16/5 Fighter/Monk, a 16/5 Sorcerer/Ranger, 16/5 Cleric/Monk, and a 16/2/1/1/1 Rogue/Fighter/Barbarian/Ranger/Sorcerer..quite awhile ago I went through the big helm cleaver fight and I chose to give the orogs the axe to be nice since they wanted it so bad..and now I still have the quest message that says I need to help them get the stupid axe and I have no idea how to get rid of that quest..same with the Bone Whispers quest about the ring of calling/room of words/word of oblivion thing..and I already beat the pool of radiance, I am just completing quests..but those 2 quests I can't close even though I did them! What should I do about that?

Whaever you choose to do with the HC does not affect the rest of the game. If you let the orogs have it they reward you with the Gloves of the Archmage. In each case you get the same amount of xp.

Maybe the only difference is that if you give the HC to the orogs the quest for it won't mark as "completed" in the Journal.
