Question how does PoR:RoMD compare to...

other recent forgotten realms games like baldur's gate and Icewind Dale? (in other words, is it any good?) i've looked at the box and haven't been too impressed by the screenshots ...gameplay and the story are much more import than graphics to me, but there's not too much i can tell about those from the box...

thanks,

j

I just started playing BG again cause I had a bad glitch with PoR, and there is no comparison. It's a completely different game. I haven't played BG in over a year and didn't realize what I was missing. In my opinion PoR can get REALLY boring and you should just experiment with BG/IWD to get ready for Neverwinter Nights. I'm done with PoR for now. Too many problems. If you like roleplaying stick to BG/IWD but if you like a good dungeon hack take a stab at PoR(soloing was the most fun and I rarely got bored).

Hey Skuld, greetings from the other board (you know which one). You could try the multi game offline (by yourself, with only your party, it's not bad, for hack-n-slash). I've found that the bugs are pretty minimal in the multi game, and the end bosses are great! Much more challenging (you'll love the lich priests). Also, the xps are 'normal', that means you get the normal amount of xps for monsters, not like in the single game. And the nottles have interesting things to sell. And the items are better (downright ridiculous at times...). Of course, no plot, no story, no quests, but...at least the dungeons are small, and one doesn't have to waste time running around from point a to b.

demis, check out my question...

i _did_ check out reviews (gamespot, etc)... however, my question was "how does por:RoMD _compare_ to games like BG and IWD?" the reviews i've read dealt with Por:RoMD only--no compare and contrast (other than a vague line here or there about them being set in the same universe, etc). My question was valid and has provided me with informative responses.

perhaps you could tell me how por:RoMD _compares_ to bg/iwd/?

thank you for your assistance in this matter...

Obviously you've played BG/IWD and now that they rely heavily on storyline for progression. PoR is more like Diablo, I played the game about %70 of the way before I quit and by that time you have hardly seen a building plot or anything. It's more of a D&D rules game with a Diablo-like gameplay style. I like it but it's so repetitive and boring. I haven't tried the multi game so I couldn't tell you about that. It's basically a Hack n' Slash with D&D based rules.

First of all reading a review of the game will give you several details about it, i assume that you should be able to make a comparisson between PoR and BG/IWD if you played them, and i didn't know that you have red any reviews from your post other than seing the box of the game.

Anyway, i think comparing the game with any of the BG games and IWD will get you dissapointed when you play it through. The game has no role-playing and the storyline is just linear something that does not happen in bg-like games. there is no NPC-interaction, a pretty uselless buy-system and a turn-based combat system. Dispite of all these i've enjoyed the game when i stopped thinking of it as a similar game like BG. 3E D&D, the excellent spells effests, the vast numbers of items and the fact that i got to see Elmnister 3-dimentional pleased me enough to consider it a good game.

thanks Demis,

your info's just the type i was looking for from the sounds of it, i probably wouldn't care too much for por:romd...i prefer a strong storyline (the more nonlinear elements the better) and a lot of npc interaction...

thanks again,

j
