| | Seriously Annoying Problem-Please Help! Hi! my brother gave me his big box of old cds yesterday (since he got married he has been a changed man, I swear )
Rummaging through it, I found Planescape and looking it up on the web, I found it was in the same universe as Baldur's Gate (which is the only blade & fireball RPG I ever liked, plus its sequels) so I hastily installed on my XP SP1 machine
And yeah the game is cool, but I can't enter the stat screen because the game immediately exits, either when I click the button, or when I use the shortcut
Otherwise, the game runs very well
I could play the game on the lowest difficulty, because I can't assign points, or whatever I get after leveling up, but that would be terribly dull and somewhat unfair to all the enemies
If you have any idea about solving this, please say so, I'm glad there are still people talking about old games |

| | | Same problem I'm having the same problem, everytime i click on the STATS button it returns an error
AppName: torment.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: torment.exe
ModVer: 1.0.0.1 Offset: 001ed861
and it exits the game. Probably same situation, 2 CD version, win xp sp2.
If anyone figures out how to solve this, please post.
I played this the first time i got the game, don't remember if it was win98 or xp, but if it was xp it was before sp1, but in this forum it says that you didn't have this problem even with sp2. Maybe it's a hardware issue that we both share. I have a Nvidia Asus N7600GS video card, do you have something similar? |

| | | I realize this is probably a given, but have you downloaded and installed the appropriate patch?

| | | Thanks for answering What do you mean apropriate patch? Is there a fix for this particular problem? If so, please point it out to me, because i haven't been able to find it.
As far as i know, the 2 CD version has already the 1.1 patch, so i downloaded the Torment Fix Pack v1.37 from Planescape-Torment.Org and applied it, but this didn't solve the problem.
And i didn't find this problem anywhere else on the net, so i assume it's caused by some new hardware.
Thanks. |

| | | By appropriate patch, I meant just that: the patch you would add for whichever game version, 2-CD or 4-CD, that you were running; and 1.1 and/or the TFP were the files in question.
So we know it isn't lack of these. Have you tried eliminiating as many resident programs from your computer as possible before running the game? Virus checkers, screensavers, contact management popups, etc, are all grabbing memory, and anyone of those could be taking up the area that's called when you bring up your stats screen. I would try to get as vanilla a Windows load as I could before running PS:T, and see if that helps.

| | | Tried that, killed every killable process before starting the game, and i still get the same error. Since i really want to (re)play this game, i'll try other ideas, such as running it on wine/linux or on a VM.
But if someone finds anything about this problem, please post here. Thank you. |

| | | I've had my share of PS:T problems in the past. Mostly with the patching process. A complete reinstall (uninstall, wipe all traces from HD), followed by starting up the game and then exiting it, then install the appropriate official patch, then start up and exit, then install the unofficial patches, and then play.
For some reason this usually fixes the occasionally crash glitches that arise. No guarantee for your particular problem though. Can't say I've experienced it. |

| | | I experienced one of these crashes immediately after entering a gate... then I'd try to load from a autosave and it would give a runtime error. Even loading from a previous game when I would go to that same gate, it would crash.
I did two things that seemed to resolve the issue:
1. Downloaded the latest NVidia NForce drivers.
2. Delete the cache folder for the game.
I was then able to reload from the autosave AND enter the gate without crashing. I hope this helps.
BTW: I have the 2-CD version and have the CD files loaded on to the HD so I can run the game w/o the CDs. I have not applied any patches.
