No spoilers! What should I know before playing this game?

What can a player expect from PS:T?

I'm thinking of reinstalling it on my computer, and haven't touched the game in years. I never completed it either.

What mods/patches/ect. do I need or should I download?

TIA

I would just go with the latest patch (if you have the four disc version) and the restoration pack, which adds some dialog that was removed due to bugs or other reasons as well as some items which were removed from the release version as well as a good amount of bug fixes.

Crenshinibon is correct: there's very little to add to the title. On the other hand, about expectations, I would just add thiis: if you want to play a game that puts a premium on dialog and diplomacy, start with high Wisdom and Intelligence. Some find this too light on battles, so if you prefer that route, work instead on Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution. The differences truly are considerable between the two approaches.

Also, unlike in the BG series, you can actually talk to your party members like you could to a normal NPC by clicking the dialog icon and targeting them.
