help casting spells

I'm a mage & can't for the life of me figure out how to cast a spell. I "memorized" the spells (i.e. they're in the left side of my spellbook), but when i right click there's nothing in my spell section, so I can't choose one to cast. I have no idea how to put one there. Also, 3 spells are there for a companion, but I don't know how to *change* what 3 spells they are.

I downloaded the patch, so I don't think it's a bug (I hope not!). Please help me; even the manual won't!

Did you rest after selecting which spells to memorize ? If you don't rest, spells in the left part of your book wir remain grey/translucent and won't be usable.
As for your companions' spells just click on the memorized spells in their book to empty the slot.
