Post Configuring the Chosen One

I was just curious how people have played their CO, whether as primarily a thief, fighter, mage, or some combination of the above.

My first run-through was pretty much as a multi-class on all three. My second was as a mage with thief leanings.

And you...?

Pretty much pure mage all the way my first time through. Saw no need for thief since I was a big Annah fan, and Morte, Dak'kon, and Vhalior had the "fighter" angle pretty much covered. I wanted to get tNO up to a high enough level to where I could throw those massive level 9 spells around, which I eventually did and was a little disappointed. For all the bright, shiny flashes of light the mage spells didn't do a ton of damage...Grace's lightning bolts hit harder than pretty much everything I could throw out. Next time, I went fighter.

Did you try that cloudkill spell? I'd found it did the most damage of any spell in my CO's arsenal. I used to take out 4 or 5 of those bloated giant worms under the city at one time (6000 exp each) with one of those spells.

I was a fighter first, became fairly powerful(around 20 damage with Heartseeker)but had problems with Abishai coz they resisted the extra damage...

Cloudkill is fine, but considering how high a level you have to be to cast the strongest spells, I would expect them to do a little more damage...or just any damage, period. Kind of sad that a mid level priest spell could easily equal or surpass all of the level 9 mage spells. So, I don't recommend going the mage route...kind of a waste of specialization bonuses.

More important than what you play as, is the stats you assign yourself up front. Because of the importance of dialogue in determining events, high intelligence, wisdom and even charisma should be considered above some of the other categories. This becomes increasingly important later in the game.

I'd agree with Millwall. Wisdom just may be the most important stat of all, and it governs a host of extra conversational options which won't appear if that stat is normal or low. Intelligence works in somewhat the same way, and I've seen charisma affect the items you receive in a few encounters.
