2 Problems around Clerk's Ward

First off, I've got an really irritating problem at the entrance of the curiosity shoppe. I can't go in without getting kicked out of the game! When I played PT on my laptop this problem would occur now and then, but now on the stationary computer (which is 1000 times stronger than the laptop) the game breaks-down every single time, only at the curiosity shoppe so far!
Has anyone else got this problem, or maybe a solution? I really need to get into that shop since I need to buy a chocolate thing to teh magician in the private sensorium!

The second problem, or rather a simple question: How do I get out of a faction? I planned on entering a faction, but only when I find one that will suit me and my character. But now I'm in the sensate faction, which I have to be, but after that little part in the story, how do I get out of the sensates? Do I have to find another faction or can I do something to simply exit the faction?

[I have the 4CD-version, installed both the official and the unofficial patch - A box saying "Assertion failed...blablabla, the usual thing, pops up after break-down]

I'm sorry to say I haven't heard anyone having the shop problem you describe, so I can't help you there.

Regarding factions however, as far as I remember you just join another faction and you will automatically not belong to the previous one anymore.

Ok, but I can't just exit from the faction, without entering a new faction?

Anyone who can help me on the break-down problem??

Right: the only way to leave a faction, is to declare that you're doing so to the leader of another faction you want to join.

Re the break down problem: Delete everything in your cache and temp folders. That works for me.

in what way will that help me with a breakdown prob in a game?

When the game goes to a new location it does a lot of writing to the cache and temp folders. Only problem is it never cleans them up. After a while those folders fill up, the game can't swap files, and it crashes.

I deleted all of the files in the temp and cache folder but this is what i get now when i try to get from clerk's ward to the lower ward:
Runtime error!
C:\Program:\Black Isle\Torment\Torment.exe
abnormal program termination

Anyone else who can help me?
