Getting started in vampire

Hi, I hate being the newbie but I need advice. I am extremely interested in getting started in the PnP version of either Vampire the masquerade or requiem. So I was wondering exactly how should I go about getting started in either of these games. (side note: I've been researching and it seems like requiem isnt recieving a very warm welcome, so id like to know which you guys prefer.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I was pretty busy.

I have never played Requiem, but I have played a lot of masquerade. It's far easier to find a group than to start one of your own if you have limited funds like I always did.

I would recommend though, if you want to start your own game, start small. Make it set in a fairly remote place where there are few vampires. This allows you to play without risking making anything in a sourcebook obsolete. Sometimes it's fun to play with a group of caitiff who really know nothing of the kindred world and have them learn more as you learn more by getting ahold of books and whatnot.

You don't have to go with anything in the books, of course. Sometimes it's really great to just make your own story up. I have found, though, that I get disappointed when I finally do get ahold of a sourcebook and I want to use something, but can't because I'm already doing so many things that are contrary to the book.

The nice thing about Vampire is that you can get a lot of good info in just a couple of books. I recommend you only start with a couple of core books(get them old and beat up on ebay) and maybe the clan books for any clans that have a presence in your city. There's no need for detailed info on the Sabbat, Camarilla, Ghouls, etc. right away. The players won't be powerful enough to get into a lot of those situations.

You may even want to go with an out of date edition. That makes it fairly cheap. In fact, I may still have those old books I was trying to offload a while back. I'll check and see what I have sometime. PM me if you're interested.
