As this thread has nothing to do with Knights of the Old Republic II, or even games, I am moving this to a more appropriate forum.

I'm of the view that movies based on video games tend to be unmitigated disasters, Dungeons and Dragons anyone?

This was probably the worst film ever made by a person

It is true most movies based on video games don't turn out that good. i don't think Doom was very good either.

Well, you can rejoice because George Lucas is not going to make any more Star Wars movies. He said the trilogy is complete. No need to expand anymore. I've read it somewhere and its confirmed by Lucas himself. As far as I know, he's currently working on a new Indiana Jones title slated for a 2007 release (I think).

As for game-based movies, I had to agree with the majority here that most of them don't turn out well, except for Tomb Raider, which is not bad, in my opinion. The first game-based movie, Tron turned out to be a bomb in the box office. Followed by Resident Evil, Doom and some other related movies.

As for the other game-based movies in development like Warcraft, Hitman and some other title, if any of them managed to become a blockbuster, I will applaud them for giving this genre the respect they deserved.

Although there is alot of speculation there isn't anyone confirmed for the warcraft-movie project yet.

I remember an article in Gamespot a while back mentioned that Warner Brother's Legendary Pictures (creators of Batman Begins, as what Jon Irenicus said) was confirmed to produce the Warcraft movie.

I though he ment Christopher Nolan...but in this case i take my words back.
But let's stay on-topic and that is the Kotor movie.
Wich im still strongly against...the starwars saga is complete, and although a game in a different timesetting can be intresting (the Kotor games) makeing a movie about them can only ruin the series and the games for me.

Then again, a game-movie where they finally pick a game where the characters have actually have a personality could be a nice change.
Take Halo for example...the main character doesn't even have a name...(i only played Halo1, so could be it's introduced in part2). It would be very hard to make an intresting character from that.

With some good writers, planning, and some hard work I think a kotor movie would be great. It would bring in new fans and revitalize the older fans.

You are right. The original star wars movies shouldn't be touched. That story is well told and done. A new series, in a different time would be great... at least for me.

I wholly agree here. The Star Wars saga is done, finished, kaput.

Another problem with making the KOTOR movie is that the main character is a mute coupled with the fact that you can choose the gender of the main character in KOTOR plus the game is open-ended and allows you to play as bad/good guy so it will be very hard to make a movie out of a game like that. Its seems like all game-based movies are based around games that are linear just like Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Doom and other linear games.

Well, the main character in Halo is the famed Master Chief. Instead of a transparent screen, he has a gold screen so we can't tell what he looks like. At least you can tell that he is a guy and he does have a voice. Also its not too hard to make a movie out of Halo as the Halo series itself is kind of linear .
