Raymond E. Feist - his books follow a chronological order telling a story of three brothers, pretty good fantasy story I would recommend it to anyone to read it.

Here are his books in reading and chronological order:

-Magician
-Jimmy the Hand
-Honoured Enemy
-Murder in LaMut
-Daughter of the Empire
-Silverthorn
-A Darkness at Sethanon
-Servant of the Empire
-Krondor the Betrayal
-Mistress of the Empire
-Krondor the Assassins
-Krondor Tear of the Gods
-Prince of the Blood
-The Kings Buccaneer
-Shadow of a Dark Queen
-Rise of a Merchant Prince
-Rage of a Demon King
-Shards of a Broken Crown
-Talon of the Silver Hawk
-King of Foxes
-Exiles Return
-Flight of the Nighthawks
-Into a Dark Realm

I also love John Caldwell's Chaos-series about the half-orc Skandar Graun, who's kinda blunt, a bit stupid, but always hammers his way out of rough situations with his flail. I can't give you a list of his books, cuz I'm not sure they're translated to English.....its a hungarian series. Didn't know that until a year back.

I would recommend three trilogies by Robin Hobbs.

Start with the Farseer Trilogy, then The Liveship Traders Trilogy and finally The Tawny Man Trilogy. The three are connected, but each stand alone as well, altough I would suggest reading them in the order above is the best way.

Among the Fantasy books, i like the series of Harry Potter are the best fantasy writing since Tolkien. I like The Deathly Hallowsb best, followed by The Order of the Phoenix. Now commences another long wait to see what Ms. Rowling will pen next. This series is in my " must need" list. Lately I found a recent deal for Harry Potter Boxset Books 1-7 for $117 instead of $195. Is it a good price? I plan to buy them.

The list of Book suggested by Ferrick is great. I like these books, especially Jack Vance..

Obvious ones to start: Lord of the Rings, Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales.

After Tolkien I enjoy both Feist (especially the Riftwar Saga) and George R R Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series. There are plenty of others but those stand out.

Just don't mention Harry Potter as I hate the series with a passion

Like Bluesky, I have a special fondness for Terry Pratchett. he appeals to my extremely warped (and oft sadistic) sense of humour.

Another author I really like, though he's more correctly sci-fi than fantasy (I find the line between the two can be blurry) is Ian Banks

I haven't read proper space age sci fi for a while. I was always a fan of Larry Niven! I prefer swords and sorcery (not forgetting buxom wenches) to more futuristic titles but Niven was always a good read. I especially loved his Legacy of Heorot & Dragons of Heorot (which was called Beowulf's children in the U.S. I believe).

Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl books were good.

I personally didn't like those, though it has been some time I last read any book from the serie.

Perhaps I should try to locate couple of those from local library...

I believe there are 4-5 books in the entire series.

Is the stories linked or separated? My point is that should I hunt down the first book of the series, or can I just read the first one I find?

fantasy books

I like the The Fire Within trilogy, mainly cause it involves dragons. but it also has ties to reality. it doesnt take place in a fictional world. I also like the Inheritance Trilogy, by Christopher Paolini. Ive just read the first book, but i am planning to get Eldest (the second of the trilogy) sometime soon. Also, has anyone read The Revenge of the Shadow King by Derek Benz and J.S. Lewis? That's another one i like.

major fan !!1!111!!!11!!! (lol)

yeh well i read tons of fantasy books - rite know im just going through my book collection finding authors and series. 1 sec.

here are just a few.

please exscuse spellings.

phillip paulman - i dont know what the series are called. but there making a movie called - the golden compass - which is based on the first one. so that might be its name.

garth nix - brilliant series - also dont know the name - but theres 7 books called -mister moday, *something*tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, and saturday + sunday still to come.
he also has another series the first book in this one is called sabriel.

eoin colfer - the artemis fowl series - one of the best ive read.

the horus heresy (series/trilogy) - i didnt state the writers names because all three books are written by different people.

stephen king - allthough his books mostly fall under horror/fantasy (in my experiance)

the obvious = J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkein.

book('s) description -

ok Phillip Paulman - trilogy. first book called: northen lights. desc- girl named lyra lives in a world vaugly similar to our own, when a series of abductions appear to spread across middle england she finds herself swept into a epic adventure.

Garth Nix. trilogy. first book called: mister monday. desc- young arthur penghalion has the worst first day experiance of a new school ever imagened. its during this that he receives a long clock hand which is a key to a most amazing house which isnt in this realm and so he aims to reclaim the other 'keys' to the house in order to restore sanctity to the house.

Eoin Colfer. 5 books (maybe more coming). first book called: artemis fowl. desc- mister artemis fowl jr. one of the the worlds criminal mastermind, uncovers a great secret, and aims to capatalize on it, and become one of historys cornerstones. but he gets more than he bargained for, ranging from dwarphs, LEPrecon officers, a bio bomb ! and even a troll.

horus heresy. trilogy (going on four books). first book called: horus rising. desc- this story follows a mighty sapce marine, commander loken of 10th squad as he fights for his empire and for the newly ellected war-master. follow the series as it unfolds a great plot.

and last but not least, Stephen King. many, many books. my favoroute book: IT. desc- of stephen king books. stephen king is one of my favoroute writers.
as he write chilling storys which really scare, and puzzle you to the existance of reality. having published many books, some turned into movies, the ones i know of are, CARRIE, the shining and i think theres more, stephen king is a must for any person who like fantasy or horror. i will let you decide.

thank-you for reading if you did.

desc=description -- im just lazy.
