| | | RPG/Tactical game Hello,
I'm looking for RPG/Tactical games like Fallout: Tactics, or Jagged Alliance 2. Can you recommend some to me? I don't care if they're old.
Thanks in advance! |

| | | I could recommend X-Com, the Disciples series, the Heroes of Might and Magic series or Warcraft 3.

| | | I wouldn't place WCIII under that category. Which X-Com are you referring to? Is it still available somewhere? |

| | | If you're not put of by a horrible storyline I can recommend Brigade E5: New Jagged Union. It's sort of tribute to jagged alliance, and the combat system is very good, but unfortunately the story sucks.
The first X-com is imo the best. But X-com apocalypse isn't all bad either.

| | Brigade E5 can be bought either from Strategy First or Amazon should it be hard to find in your area.
Ufo: Enemy unknown is abandonware by now, and can be downloaded from Home of the underdogs. I believe it's bundled with the sequel which is not as good.

| | | You might need to use dosbox to get it working.
I also have a little tip. Contrary to many similar games this one can be played without reloading. In other games your troops often gain enough experience to make them irreplaceable later on. It's possible to go that route here as well, but you can also consider your troops expendable and consequently develop tactics that suits better for inferior troops. That way it wont be a disaster if you loose a battle or two, and that type of game is imo much more enjoyable. It's one of the reasons I rate Enemy unknown so high.

Though there were some problems with especially the speed and controls... not sure if using DB would fix those, as haven't tried out yet.

| | You can pick up X-COM: Terror From the Deep on Valve's Steam service for a measly $2.45. I'm guessing that you wouldn't need DOSBox for this version since it launches from the Steam client, though I can't say for sure. |

| | | X-Com seems very detailed, but I have one problem: whenever I try to start a mission, the game crashes to Windows. I'm using the WinXP fix that's provided. Can anyone help me out? |

| | I have had the same problem, and solved it by using dosbox. Kipi might have a more elegant solution than this, but I don't know what it is.
Edit: Check out this page for troubleshooting and other information.

I think it's just a luck that it worked without DOSBox in my comp (also using WinXP).
Though it was so buggy that I suggest to try with DOSBox...
