Independant gameing

These last months im more and more intrested in independant games.
Games that are free or can be bought for a small price but don't have the huge companies backking them up. And i found some real jewels.

Ok these games don't realy overheat your graficcard in general, but some have realy good gameplay, story or just a great innovative feel to them.
Games that might not sell well to the general public mostly cause every new game should look better then the last. And the big company's rather invest in "safe games" instead of new idea's.

I realy enjoy finding and playing these games, and i also enjoy supporting these programmers.
I will include a list of games that might be worth taking a look at (unless another moderator sees it as advertising) and i would like to know if other people look and play these games aswell or might have other good suggestions.

There is no need to turn this into a gameplay VS grafics thread, cause i think we all agree on that.

Ok here's a list that might be worth takeing a look at
  • Darwinia - Lemmings meets C&C.
  • Aveyond - A great and huge RPG, great for those people who cannot run Oblivion.
  • Weird Worlds - A fun spacegame, it feels a little like the old StarControl games.
  • Frasse and the Peas of Kejick - A good old adventure, monkey island style.
  • The game that takes place on a cruise ship - Another (free) and fun old-school adventure

Hi,

Can you give me any link to this Aveyond's website? I can't seem to access its official website for some odd reason. Thank you.

Thank you for the link. It works.

Been to the game's website and this game kind of reminds me of a 2D MMORPG called Aspereta that I've played 2 years ago before I upgraded my computer.

Will give it a try when I have the time.

Two indie CRPGs:
- Teudogar and the Alliance with Rome I've yet to try it out, but it's definitely worth a look. It isn't freeware, but cheap. And there is a huge demo version of it. It's said to provide great gameplay, a deep story with a historical background and much realism. Consult the homepage for more information.

- Prelude to Darkness This one can be downloaded for free. Got it yesterday but haven't played more than half an hour yet. So far it's quite intriguing. I'm sure it will keep me occupied for a couple of weeks. So...get it!

Having a look at Aveyond now. Must say, keep this thread going I don't have the time or know-how to find these independant games but I'm certainly intrigued by them for the reasons Stilgar mentioned.

I've been trying this one this evening and I can certainly recommend it too.
Just trying to get past a combination lock puzzle in it now...

Here's another one to add to your list, Nethack, I downloaded a version that fit on my PDA, which was quite good. It's a nice little D&D like game that generates random dungeons each time for you to adventure through (and there are PC versions too ).
