Game recommendations

As I finally have new laptop, I would like to ask some game recommendations. Any kind of games goes as long as my computer should run the fine.

My specs:

• AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60, 1,99GHz, rated as 4,19 GHZ (DualCore)
• RAM: 2GB
• Windows XP Pro SP2 (Build 2600)
• ATI Radeon X1200 Series (128 MB, 3d Acceleration, Video HW T&L, Vertex and Pixel Shaders version 2.0)
• DirectX 9.0C
• SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio
• 80 GB memory hard drive
• MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ-861H

I think you should be able to run The Orange Box (Portal is awesome ) without any problems. Of course, if you install it all it'll take 20gB

You might want to consider Morrowind. Your specs should run it easily, and there are over 5000 mods out there to enhance the experience with new, improved graphics, more questing systems, personality-heavy NPC companions, buyable houses, etc.

I should probably think most games that come out in 2005 and before should be able to run decently on your machine.

You have already forgotten that I do have Morrowind?
Yeah, I've it already installed with around 200 mods, and especially couple heavy ones.

Yeah, I've been considering about the Orange Box, but was actually unsure how well it works with my computer. But I take it should work fine?

Actually, I've Max Payne 1, but for some reason it doesn't want to install my computer.

Actually, I've already bought couple of games which my previous computer wasn't able to run: HoMM V, C&C Generals, CIV IV and F.E.A.R. All of them works fine and are good games excluding HoMM V, which is very laggy. But what I gathered it's not because of my computer but because of bad coding of the game (memory leaks and so on).

Actually, I've already bought couple of games which my previous computer wasn't able to run: HoMM V, C&C Generals, CIV IV and F.E.A.R.

F.E.A.R does have some very high reqs. Things like slow time can really be a drain to your system. However, Civ IV is kind of the opposite. I'm not quite sure, but it should run well on even lower end systems, in comparison to yours.

Huh? Odd. Must be the game's problem itself. I was able to play it back in '02 (running on a P2 at that time).

Not only that but also, the game itself is a hardware hog. If I recall correctly, at the time of F.E.A.R.'s release, not even the high-end Geforce 6 and ATI X cards were able make it beyond 60fps at the normal resolution of 1024x768.

Let's see... My computer (1,5 month old) has a slightly more powerful prosessor and a GeForce card, and I don't have any problems at all. The simplest thing to do would be to ask a clerk in a game store if you can run The Orange Box on your computer. Then you'll know for sure.

Do you have Vista or XP?
Vista got some problems with "older" games. I can run battlefield, but without any crosshair (). Might be the same problems with Max Payne as well.

He mentioned in the first post that he's using XP with Service Pack 2. I also find this surprising as well as a friend of mine was able to play Max Payne on his P4 1.6Ghz (using Windows XP with SP2).

Yeah, and I was able to run it perfectly fine with my old laptop, AMD Athlon 1.7 GHz. IIRC the error message that I got was about the 16 Bit system and how there were conflicts with it.

And about F.E.A.R: I'm not currently using the highest settings, as I haven't tested it yet how well it will run then, but my current settings are near the high end, and I don't have any problems or slowdowns.

Reminds me of an older game I tried to play back when I was using the P2. Said it won't run since it's using 256bit. Had to adjust it to 256bit at the display properties just to play it. I think re-adjusting the bit rate might help, though it is kind of awkward if you want to play the other later games.

I know that site, I'm using it all the time for finding good games.

Though there is couple of things that bug me in that site:
1) If the game runs in XP, but it has Vista as recommendation (no real difference in gameplay), the site claims that my comp doesn't meet the recommended requiremenents.
2) It sometimes gives false info. For example HoMM V. THe site claims that my comp is more than over the recommended requirements, but it's still laggy. What I have gathered, it's due the bad coding and thus I would need far better computer to actually overcome the bad coding

I usually don't trust these types of sites when it comes to determining whether my computer can run a certain game or not. As for HoMM V, oddly enough, I was able to run it on my desktop without any lagg. Probably think that the game wasn't designed with laptop compatibility in mind. Just guessing, though.
