| | Ah, Weasel, the master manipulator.
Why was it again that there was some opposition to the suggestion of you becoming a moderator? I can't recall. http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/cool.gif

| | I would have to say the whole ff series. Altough don't know how mentioned this before 8 was a little dissapointing. 7 was great but my favorite will always be ff3. It was a rpg that kept me busy over 2 years and then I finally finished with a book. After that the longest that I have ever been with a rpg was 7 months or so. I was told that ff10 and 11 will only be playable over the Internet. You would have to have a partner to play the game. Does anyone know anything about this.

| | I am an OS/2 adherent, therefore, I don't tolerate Windows at all. I install Windows inly if I want to play a contemporary RPG. That's why my favorites are rather old.
1. TES Arena (Betsehda) - it's better than Daggerfall
2. Albion (Blue Byte)
3. Star Trail (Blue Byte)
4. Ishar 2 (Silmarils) - yes, it is still playable!!
5. Might & Magic 7 (oh well, Windows, ueee)
6. Gates of Skeldal (a Czech RPG unknown to anybody outside Czech Republic)
Something is missing? No, it is not! I cannot place BG2 in my hall of fame! Too many hack'n'slash elements are present in the game. Examples:
a) Forced bad readiness: Powerful spells like paralyzation or charm-like spells have area effect in BG2 and are used by any spellmonger at every corner. You cannot do much against them. Well, you can pray to your Gods. A well behaved RPG uses such spells a a rare spice and allows protection against them.
b) Big Fun: Everyone who tried Witchaven-like stupidities knows that. You are going through a passage and suddenly you are dead. Oh well, there was a trap on the floor... And what about BG2? What about all those Death spells, Power Words Kill, Imprisonments, and so on, and so on? Well, you have Death Ward spell but you have only few such spells. What to do when they wear off? It is the same problem as sub a).
c) Impossible battles: Impossible in the sense that it is considered normal that somebody will die or that you will restart the game several times before you win the battle. In well behaved RPGs, death of a hero is always a result of a rough error of the player.
d) Forced evil quests: When the Mentors complain about computer games, they complain about violence, about murders and so on... Well, the games themselves aren't bad. What about Bible? How much violence and murders is there! And what about fairy tales? About history? Violence itself isn't bad in principle. But violence must be "good", not "evil". When the violence is evil then the Mentors are correct. "Kill your friend! Now look at USA schools! A result of computer games!!", says the Mentor. Sorry, the Mentor is partly correct. Let us return to BG2. What can we say about Edwin's quests? And about Drow City? About solutions?? Drow City - tortured genie: correct solution is KILL THE GENIE, not kill the torturers!
That's why BG2 is missing. |

| | FF3 was one of the greats (now FF6 here for some reason) The problem with those games are that people are only getting into them because their retro! Well, I have been a hardcore FF fan since the beginning, but I'm not as a ig of one now. You wanna know why? The damn futureistic plot lines! Come on! You don't want to Role Play in a world that you can do stuff in for reality! Plus, who the hell uses a sword when going up againest guns! If you ask me, thats a death wish waiting to happen. Also, in FF7, all those guns did pidely-sh!t to the people, yet their are summon creatures and materia! Why use the pea-shooters when you can summon huge, walking death mongers! Then, with Sepheroth! If he was so all powerful, and all mighty, and you were supposed to kill him, and he knew that, why didn't he kill when he got the chance? So, I have a lot to gripe about the FF7-8. They both sucked, royally! Thats why I loved FF: Tactics, and I enjoy FF9, because they are back at the roots of true RPG's. The fanatsy bassed genre was meant for sword and sorcery, not bullets. If people want a RPG with guns, play Shadow Run, or V:tM. The FF series should've never sold out to what a small amount of people want. It should've stuck with what worked, good old blockheads.
Oh well, thats my rant. I hope you enjoyed. You can catch my performance again at 2:00, and 7:00 at the motel on the corner. No encores though...

| | @Aegis.. I have to agree ..the last two I got I didn't even finish http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/frown.gif Now I did enjoy FF:Tactics and I for one can remember the black wizard and the white wizard. Those were the best FF games. http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/smile.gif
@Carrot yes from what I read that would seem to be the case...I don't think it will last though...Square Soft tried to go to a futuristic look and has changed back now and I believe that online FF will head back to the basics too.

| | I was released shortly after FF7. It was based in a more traditional story line.
Basic plot, PC, Ramza Beolouve, disowns his family. Becomes a rebel, gets intwined in a plot to over thorugh a kingdom, finds out chruch is the true culprit, and to end, he finds out the church is trying to revive a dead god named... (can't remember, it'll come to me later) But, Cloud is a hidden char. in it. Lots of cool spell affects, based in an isometric camaera viwe which can be moved. Long story, four chapters. Very deep plot. All in all, one hell of a fine game. Unfortuneatly, Square has recently canceled game production of it, and is now considered a rare find, which perplexes me because it was one of the best selling FF games. Oh well, if you ever do find it, play it. You won't be dissapointed with it.
For any other information of classic console RPG's, feel free to ask. I'm just a bank of all the classics!
P.S. (This is not intended to be a bad message) If your interested in playing all of the classics, go find an emulator. It is considered to be illigeal for the newer systems, but for NES, SNES, Genisis, and any other old consoles, no one in the bizz cares anymore.
