City of Heroes

Has anyone heard of a new MMORPG called "City of Heroes"? It looks refreshingly new.
I've been wanting to play a MMORPG for some time now but I didn't want to play an fantasy game again. Then again, change 'superhero' to 'half-elf kensai' and you may have more of the same old, same old.

Don't know much about the one you mention, sorry - but if you wish to play a MMORPG that isn't fantasy - well you could always try EVE-Online or Anarchy Online.

EVE-Online is an "Elite-type" (if you remember Elite) MMORPG set in a distant galaxy with what were ment to be the most complex player based in-game economy yet, but seeing as it is some time ago I played it (Beta and 6 months into retail), I can't say how the game has evolved.
Anarchy Online - I have only played briefly (7 day free trial), but from what I remember it is some corporations that wage war in a futuristic envioment.

Also Starwars: Galaxies is out, for the SW fans that wish to play there. Only played beta, but decided that I didn't want to play the retail, so can't give much information about the state of the game.

Can anyone recommend a MMORPG then? A lot them seem very much alike and the amount of creativity is, IMHO, a little low. Which means I'd rather not go for DAoC or Anarchy Online and the like.

What sort of MMORPG are you looking for, then? Text-based, or graphical? RPG, action, building, or casual/talk?

I played Dragon Realms for a while. It was a very nice experience; the people I met were very friendly and helpful. I might try that again, but I didn't care very much for the (absolute) lack of graphics.
A nice community is the most important thing, with a lot of roleplaying aspects but without the obligatory elves and halflings. It would be great if politics, factions, religion, economics, all layers of society were clearly defined.
I realise of course that there's no such thing as the perfect game and consequently, no such thing as the perfect MMORPG. I would like to know about other people's experiences though.

I'm prejudiced--both as an avid reader, which means I find my visual imagination most stimulated by text; and because I worked for several years as a GM in DragonRealms. To me, text has the possibility of being the most "sensory" of mediums for an MMORPG. But again, that's just my perspective.

Dragon Realms created wonderful cities and landscapes in my mind's eye - but a sunset in Morrowind is an unforgettable experience as well.
Text is, of course, not the only powerful medium. For example, Lord of the Rings and The Name of the Rose were two wonderful reading experiences - but the movies were quite beautiful as well.
