Did your alignment change? Barbarians can't be lawful.

That would be the only thing I can think of that would prevent a barbarian from progressing. In fact, that is the only thing that would prevent a barbarian from progressing.

Meh, you might be able to turn this into a good thing. I'd suggest going for fighter to get the bonus feats. You've now got some DR, Improved Uncanny Dodge and Greater Rage. 4 extra feats could help you out in improving your battle skills quite a bit.

If you are Lawful Good, and have a decent Cha (14+), which is unlikely, but hey, you never know...you could switch to Paladin too. Some neat abilities there within the first few levels.

I agree. I only put 7 levels of barbarian into my guy before switching to fighter. The additional feats make it very worthwhile (not to mention the free heavy armor and tower shield feats which are nothing to scoff at). Especially when you consider that resting is so easy in this game #rages/day isnt that big a deal. Granted the barbarians rage will improve at 11/14/17/20 I'd still rather have all the feats from a fighter. A few levels of frenzied berserker can also be very helpful.
