Romances *(major) spoilers*

I've played through the game twice by now, so I started wondering. Are there any romances in NWN 2? If yes, how are they triggered correctly? Are the certain prerequites you have to meet e.g. being human/elf/half-elf or something like that? As a big BG2 fan I really miss the romancing stuff.

I always paid attention to keep the influence high with all the girls, but aside from Neeshka not siding with the Lord of Shadows in the end for example, or Shandra being helpful in the court the high influence was kind of useless.

Thx in advance.

So long,
Sol

SPOILERS: ( highlight to read )
Casavir and Elanee are your two romance options, as far as I know. I've only played women so far and twice now Casavir declared his undying loyalty and love to me. ( Which kind of... wasn't so cool, because I wanted Bishop, darn it. )

As far as Elanee is concerned, I have no idea how you'd trigger it. She does make a comment to me ( a female ) about being good with children when you rescue Andrew and his friend Alex from the wolves outside the Highcliff Castle ruins, so I'd guess that's where you can say something as a man, as well.

After playing twice through the game, I've had Elanee declare her love for my character both times. 2nd time through I used the cheat codes to have everyones influence at 100, and it was still only Elanee. This occurred after the bridges are retaken by you.

From the Bioware Forums:

There are only two possible Romance Options in NWN2:

Male PC Romance Elanee;
Female PCs Romance Casavir.

There may be flirting options with others, but nothing serious.

Ok, that explains some things In my first run through the game I didn't even have Elanee with me most of the times. Thanks for your help.

Yeah, when I played a female character, I barely used Casavir. Wouldn't you know, the two romantic leads are two of the most boring companions in the game.

For the people who have experienced the romances, are they worth pursuing, if you otherwise wouldn't use the characters involved?

They add nothing to the game at all except I'd think a cut scene or two, so I'd say no, they are not worth exploring further. Perhaps in an expansion the choice will have consequences, but so far it doesn't.
Basically - all I saw of the romance with Eleena it consists of a cut scene (which I'd think comes from enough influence) - so .... thats about it.

Romance with Casavir adds nothing whatsoever, just a tiny cutscene toward the end of chapter III. There is one interesting fact that I don't know how to explain, though...

My character was Chaotic Evil and she still got him. I don't know why. She kept Casavir with her as a tank, mostly, and I made sure she stayed within her alignment. As a result, I had rather high influence with Bishop ( who I wanted for romance, DARN IT! ), and (spoiler: -> ) In the fortress of the King of Shadows, after Bishop left during the siege on Crossroad Keep, Casavir brought Bishop up in a cutscene between all the characters. I chose the option that I didn't truly believe that Bishop had betrayed me... and there went the romance. Casavir's answer was something along the lines of "It has been a long, strenuous journey and I will be glad when I can finally part ways with you!". I didn't lose any influence with him, though. Oddish. ( <- spoiler )

So, worth pursuing? Not for me. Elanee rubbed me the completely wrong way the moment I met her and while Casavir isn't as bad as some other Paladins With A Problem, he's not that great, either. I think the romance options are probably a sure-fire way to make those two companions not betray you, though.

To bad its gender and only Eleene and Casavar.
Playing a Female mage Shandra constantly seemed to be coming on to me, so it was quite intresting.

Nothing happend though, dang it.

Love Triangle

While I didn't pursue the romances (felt that the character, being a pally, would throw duty before booty) I did run into the obvious Casavir romance. It was somewhat frustrating to be railroaded in some of the dialogue on the matter, but hey, by that point in the game it's happened so much it stops being a big deal. Anyhow, when you get to the big "judgement" toward the end Bishop explains that the reason for his betrayal was because "he was willing to die for me." This makes me think that if I could have justified having a pally want to gain influence with a CE character there probably would've been a lot more to it. Even some of the cut scenes hinted at this, but that just didn't seem right.

Playing CE myself, Bishop pretty soon offered me to 'get away and camp in the woods for a year.' I wanted to. It would've made sense for my character.

Instead, I got Casavir.

SIGH.

SIGH.

But at the end you can choose to fight for the King of Shadows, which means that Bishop will side with you again and you kill Casavir. Doesn't that actually finish the apparently non-existent Bishop Romance? Just a thought.

So long,
Sol

Erm... since the 'only options' are human or near-human sized, it would be a bit of a problem for Gnome or Halfling of either sex... *boggles*

I know, and on my current run through the game, I'm going to do just that. It's just that it doesn't make a lot of sense to me, character-wise for both Bishop and my character. Bishop's main complaint is that he doesn't want to owe anyone anything, that he doesn't want to follow orders, etc... so why follow the King of Shadows? It never made sense to me that he'd side with Garius - if he'd just disappeared into the wild again, I could've lived with that a lot more than him just trading one 'captain' (me) for another (Garius), and that in a non-evil ending I have to *persuade* him to walk away from that.

Plus, after all this running around, building the Keep, doing this, doing that... I want to open a Can of Ouch on the KoS, not become his servant.

Thats what bothers me being forced to make unreasonable choices and force dialogue choices just to experience something reasonable.

Perhaps this is just another casuality of a rushed out game that switched Lead Designers at 6(?) months before release?

It would be nice if Obsidian ever got to finish a game as intended.

I am not sure I will ever get why the only 2 choices for a romance are Cas and Elee.
Maybe they both were intended to be more indepth characters but suffered cuts.

The idea a LG Pally would mate with any alingment is just wierd, not at all believeable at least in the current state, sadly.
