Problems with party players engaging in battles

I am in the part of the game where callum gets attacked by the reaver and the golems. In a number of fights where I have gotten my butt kicked or our collective butts kicked, it seems like one of the party is standing around picking their nose or looking for photo ops or something.

Am I not controlling them correctly or is there something I can do before the fight to make sure there engaged. I notice when I switch back and forth the lead between my character (wizard) and neeska (rogue) sometimes I don't follow neeska and also the other way around. Seems buggy to me but its my first time through.
Thoughts? Tips? Any help is always appreciated.

Always review your character and the npc's character sheet behavior options. Its the last tab on the character sheet.

If a character is in "puppet" mode then they shouldn't be able to do anything unless they are directly being attacked.

no puppet mode, something else going on methinks(possible spoilers)

Thanks for the response, I went out and checked the puppet mode before each battle after I read the post and make sure it was off as well as reviewed the other options (how far to follow etc etc). But the battle on the top of the keep and the towers, khelgar and I are wacking away and Neeska stuck like a statue with no paralyzation or any effect like that. I had to take her over and get her back into the battle. I might be that, that battle takes place over different areas but I still can't figure it out.

This might be the issue, when clicking on, another member of the party, its seems like it would turn on puppet mode and maybe doesn't turn it back on when you switch to someone else. Seems like that problem would happen so frequently that it would be addressed. I think I on all but the last update. 1.12 or something like that.

Additional thoughts appreciated.

I can't think of anything else.

I do remember Neeska doing something like that before, but it wasn't at the towers for me (I took Sand and Khelgar).

You might need to right click on the ground and select the "follow me" option from the menu that pops up.

I have this problem with Casavir. It disappeared once I started using Tony K's (hope that's the right name) henchman mod.
