OC is UMD bugged for companions...

My bard with 14 UMD is already able to use wand of lighting...

Neeshka has 11 UMD...she is not able to use even a wand of missiles...

I used inspire competance and heroism on her +2 and +2 which raised Neeshka's UMD on her character sheet to 15.

I bought the wand of missiles and put it in Neeshka's inventory and it is still red.

So my conclusion is that UMD is bugged for companions. Bard cannot cast lightning or magic missile so I know its not just because I am a bard.

EDIT: I read some where that wand DC is 20 but that doesn't explain why my bard is using them

UNLESS theres a bug that allows bards to use all arcane spells?

another explanation is that companions are bugged?

another explanation is that my bard also has appraise and maybe thats lowering the DC but only for him? (by lowering the gp value of the wands)

20 (net) for UMD and wands..

Bard is ARCANE caster (regardless of charisma vs. intelligence), and can therefor use wands without UMD.

(..actually, only arcane based wands - not strictly "wisdom" based wands.)

Oh I thought I could only use the wand if it was a bard spell..eg lightning bolt is not bard spell

TIP: (for MOTB), you could also have Naya? select craft wand feat (if she hasn't already), and use her to dump spells your way.

Heck, get your UMD up to 20 and you could get the Cleric or Spirit Shaman to do the same thing.

Interesting note: Cleric level 4 spell "Hammer of the Gods" is "cranked-out" at level ***20*** on casting "into" a wand, regardless of the level of the Cleric making the wand (..assuming they can cast the spell and have the feat). Most other Cleric spells ("buffs") are at a minimum spell casting level - and so don't last real long.
