Mad (at) Skills

hello, i am currently playing a monk with 12 int and have these skills:

hide
move silently
listen
spot
tumble

but i am now starting to question the usefullness of spot and listen. are they needed skills, or should i start over and get diplomacy and lore? so far i dont have anyone that can identify and i have a large stockpile of unknown magical items.

yes, definetly.. actually, not as definite as i thought. it depends on where in the game you currently are. i wouldn't reccomend restarting if you're in the 3rd act, if you know what i mean. other than that, it really is better to have diplomacy in this game, it serves you better. for a 100 gold you can identify items at any shop, but lore is usefull for other things in the game aswell, even completing quests... i solved a problem without opening "a book" just because my lore was high enough. however, spot and listen are important in combat. your initiative depends on your spot checks, and when you're blind you depend on your ears, which can help you "see" the enemy. other than that, you can also make use of the "able learner" feat, which negates cross-class skill penalty.
