okay here's the deal, i'm in the neverwinter archives in blacklake and i have the caretaker's veil, but i still can't access the secret doors or the puzzle even though i'm wearing the veil the whole time ....ideas?

When you say secret doors, do you mean the locked one behind bookcases, because you can't open them. When you click on the puzzles, what does it say, or do? And welcome to the forums!

it won't even show me the puzzles or the doors behind the bookcases, it just shows me empty pedestals that i can't click on or anything. its acting like i'm not even wearing the caretaker's veil. oh and thnx

I think when you put the disc in your computer a graphics comes up with the game logo and some options. I believe one of the options is 'update'. You need an internet connection on that computer.

Pretty much computer games these days are unplayable without an internet connection. Just reality.

Its amazing how many people don't know how to patch their game. No offense intended, but perhaps we should make a sticky with patching guidelines for this sub-forum.

In any case, Claudius is right;

Run the game via your Start Menu and press the "Update" button on the launcher menu.
