After I leave the wall the only companion I have is Okku. Since we are both mainly fighters why did I lose my other companions. I have been killed numerous times by the faceless man on the last fight with him. IS there a trick to this? How do I get more companions?

By Leave the Wall, do you mean the battle for your soul (The Battles of Crossroad Keep and West Harbor)?

At that point, you only get one companion (For me it's usually the Dreamwalker, AKA Gann-of-Dreams).

As for the Final Battle, well, remember the Curse and it's effects. THis is the endgame, so there aren't going to be repercussions for using them.

I got Safiya the first time around and then Gann on all subsequent replays.
